Rurouni KJS ZOOM
boot speed
130 points
Team: none
Keywords: Injustice League, Police, Rogues
Range: 0 x 1

DIAL:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=14275

STRENGTHS:
He has the BEST SP ("I'LLMAAAAKEYOUBETTTTTERRR") in the game right now: Hypersonic Speed with FLURRY instead of the usual basic attack. AND Probability Control. And 11 AV on that first click with Super Senses. The only thing keeping him from being broken beyond belief is his 2 damage, which is rectified by Perplex on your team. Mid-dial, Zoom swaps out Super Senses for Impervious and Exploit Weakness and 3 damage. Later, he's still good with the return of Hyper-Flurry and PC both. Energy Shield/Deflection is good for this hit-and-runner who will nearly always be at range.

WEAKNESSES:
Kinda high-priced to have just 2 damage on his best clicks. Hindering terrain is a problem he may not be able to handle. Mid-dial loss of Hypersonic Speed also slows him down considerably. His keywords aren't very versatile, and his defense is a tad low for a speedster.

CARDS TO CONSIDER:
Since he's usually not going to be on a themed team, try LONER to boost his DV a bit. But if you have it, MANUEVER is pretty awesome, allowing him to hit and reposition two foes at once in certain cases, then move away. In unrestricted, SWINGLINE makes him nigh-unstoppable by removing his weakness to hindering terrain. DAMAGE SHIELD is also a viable choice, especially if you want to (or have to) use his EW clicks. Finally, ARMOR PIERCING makes all figures better.

IN SUM: He says "I'LLMAAAAKEYOUBETTTTTERRR" and that's exactly what he'll do for your team if you support him just a little bit with Perplex for his damage value. 4 of 5.

SPECIAL POWER: Zoom can use Hypersonic Speed. He can use it normally, or he can use flurry; Zoom can continue the rest of his movement (if any) after using flurry, but he can not move between Flurry attacks.

SPEED  -- Let's make this clear.. Zoom can move 11 spaces across the board, then attack.. then attack again. And some players
dislike special powers? This power MAKES Zoom the force he is. You can push him too; Zoom still has that special power by his last click.

ATTACK  -- Notice the pattern: Zoom's speed values are nearly exact to his attack values. It's a shame we don't see that very often. But it is not a shame that Zoom has attack above par for his point value. The attack slot looks pretty bleak without powers, but hey.. I'd rather have high attack than Quake.

DEFENSE  -- If only Impervious was front loaded! But having Impervious mid-dial can turn out well. The opponent might forget about it, or his figure's damage value might be depleted to a 2 by that time around.

DAMAGE  -- Here's the second best part about Zoom: PROBABILITY CONTROL! Flurry with strong attack and Probability Control practically guarantees a successful hit. I say practically because if you didn't notice, Zoom has 2 damage. Sigh. Fortunately, this issue can be fixed. Perhaps use Question to Outwit the damage-reducers?

FEATS?  I'd save this space for that Outwitter/Perplexer support piece Zoom sorely needs. If you have room left, try Nanobots.

~ Once again excuse the poor, embarrassing dial I created last review. Credit goes to my buddy David for finding me a suitable fixture. Thanks David. But about Zoom.. I'm not sure what else to say. He's GOOD! Simple fact. His cost is a little pricey considering he needs a backup to inflict damage. I'd stick to smaller games with this piece. That way, there's a lower chance your opponent will carry damage-reducing figures. On the other hand, in large-cost games, you'll have space to attach that support figure to Zoom. Either way, go play ZOOM!

Zoom receives a 4.5 out of 5!
