Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst. 3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Rurouni KJS Rookie Weapon Alpha
wing speed
69 points
Team: Avengers
Range: 8 x 1

Dial:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figures_dials.asp?dialid=10630&unitid=12065&universeid=4

The founding member of Canada's government-sponsored super-team Alpha Flight, James "Mac" Hudson is...Weapon Alpha. He packs the handy Charge+Super Strength to start with, along with Leadership to help his team out a bit. But that's about the extent of his good points. Though he has a full dial of SStrength and holds his starting 9 attack value and Toughness for a long time, his stats slip fast.

FEATS?
THUNDERBOLTS is all but required to get any real use out of him. Anything else is too pricey unless you take the INSPIRING COMMAND plunge and build a team around his single click of Leadership. But hey -- why not go true theme and use ALPHA FLIGHT? The AV boost helps him a lot.

THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
"Mac" here is just starting his heroic career and his super-suit isn't quite optimized, so the weak dial is fitting. And naturally theme him up with the rest of the original Alpha Flight already in clix form:
Northstar, Aurora, Puck, Shaman, Sasquatch, Marinna.

IN SUM:
He's a lite brick weak on defense and damage but too expensive for what he does.

RATING: 1.5 of 5.

Experienced Guardian
wing speed
91 points
Team: Avengers
Range: 8 x 1

Dial:

Everything I wrote about the Rookie? Same goes for Guardian, except for a slight boost in starting AV, one click of Invulnerability, a little bit of Phasing, Energy Explosion and Incap mid-dial. He also loses Weapon Alpha's starting Leadership and ending Willpower.

FEATS?
See Rookie, except for INSPIRING COMMAND.

THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
A little more confident Mac has added a quasi-teleport feature to his suit at this point. He also screws up badly enough to blow himself up, so it makes sense that his stats still aren't so hot. And his leadership of Alpha Flight is crumbling a bit.

IN SUM:
Better than the Rookie in a few ways. Worse than the Rookie in a few ways. All for a mere 22 points more!
Which equals...

RATING: 1.5/5...a low rating equal to the Rookie's.

Veteran Vindicator
wing speed
123 points
Team: Avengers
Range: 10 x 1

Dial:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figures_dials.asp?dialid=10626&unitid=12061&universeid=4

Running Shot + 10 range is a big boost for the Vet. 4 damage is great, too. Watch out for his soft second click with Barrier; I'd push off it as quickly as possible with the SStrength+Charge combo he gets.
Mid-dial he gets Perplex for a pair of slots while regaining Invulnerability, so he can really help the team out here. And with long-lasting Toughness, Energy Explosion, and a fairly steady AV, he never quite completely craps out.

FEATS?
See Guardian. More clicks of EE beg for ARMOR PIERCING.

THEMES/COMIC ACCURACY:
Back from his presumed death, Mac is at the peak of his ability. And he's still and always a member of Alpha Flight.

IN SUM:
Almost as good as the RE are mediocre. Just watch out for that sole Barrier click.

RATING: 3/5

Today's review is Guardian from Supernova

Alpha Flight’s old leader comes to us today for a review…he used to be Wolverine’s boss…imagine that.

This is the experienced version, though I like the vet better

He is 91 points, 8 range 1 target, 8 clicks of life, a flier, and an Avenger

Speed:  A single click of charge followed by some phasing…not that great

Attack:  Not bad values, not great either, all the powers are either wasted or suck with one target

Defense:  That damage reduction will make those 8 clicks a lot longer

Damage:  Not great, but seeing 1’s on a 91 point piece sucks

The Good:  Long dial

      Some move and shoot

      8 range is decent

      Damage reduction

The Bad:   Not a lot of move and shoot

     1 target EE and incap

All that super strength is wasted

     Low damage

Feats:   ICWO is a must, and Nanobots works well,  Protected and Shellhead are alright too.  Thunderbolts or Alpha Flight is also necessary.

Overall:   A flying brick without all the bricky goodness that makes a brick a brick.  Low damage, low movement, and not even great attack just does not get the job done.  This guy is junk…the vet is much better.

Constructed/Unrestricted:  1.5 / 5

Sealed/Draft:  1 / 5

Overall:  1.5 / 5

Today's Click of the Day is  Guardian
Experienced from Supernova

Surprisingly, Guardian and Vindicator are actually different people. At one point Vindicator's husband took the name Guardian from her and by looking closely at the sculpt you can tell it is the husband. Too bad I know nothing about the husband.

He is 91 points; Flier; Avengers Team; 8 Range; 1 Bolt
  10     9     9     8     12     10     7     6    KO    KO    KO    KO
  10     9     9     9   1 8    1 8      7     7    KO    KO    KO    KO
  17    17    16   16    15     15    14    14   KO    KO    KO    KO
  3      3      2     2     2       2      1     1    KO    KO    KO    KO

Speed    -- Heavy charger for light points. The two Phasing clicks in the middle are plain amazing. It's almost a given you will get away with that speed.

Attack    -- Decent. Remember Guardian is not a million points so one 10 and a bunch of 9's is efficient. Super Strength will really help out his damage.

Defense   -- I wish that Invulnerability was longer. Tons of Toughness down the dial but everything kind of fades at the end.

Damage   -- Like I said, just be glad he has Super Strength. Things become hazy halfway through the battle and then slumps down to a tiny 1. Lots of Supernova figures end with 1 damage so don't  start pulling hair out.

Sculpt   -- Bland pose. But his stand is really long!

 Romanco's Breakdown_
~ He can always shoot from 8 range once off the Charge click
~ Avengers Team means lots of cool cheap feats
~ Damage really does diminish over time

Guardian gives me a mixed reaction. Alpha Flight or Thunderbolts are necessary for this guy. And Nanobots.. okay I know I say Nanobots for just about everybody but seriously Guardian was made for Nanobots. Just see for yourself. When he gets weak and worthless there are so many ways to bring him back to being strong and useful. Try him out.

I give Guardian a 3.5/5.
