Today's tournament in Coventry was my 1st ever tournament in Duel Masters and I was slightly nervous before the tournament as I hadn't a clue what to expect from the other duelists. I met up with my bro and a few of my friends beforehand to head there as a group (posse etc.) and to scope out the competition and it was difficult. I hadn't played many other people before with my deck as I live in Birmingham myself and not many people play around where I live so I had to travel on train to this tournament so I was hoping to get my money's worth out of this tournament!

Anywayz on to the tournament itself, there was no knockouts in this tournament (Different tournament format to YGO!) and so it was just 5 rounds of Swiss that would decide who would take 1st place. People can add in their journies in the tournament after this!

Round 1 vs Chris Smith
Deck: Rainbow Deck

This duel wasn't even close as the guy I was facing had only just learned how to play the game from one of his friends and it was his 1st competitive match (same as me). His deck was made up of random cards from Water/Nature/Fire and Light and only managed to break 1 of my shields (which I let him to do to give the guy a chance) in the 2nd duel before I finished him off. I gave him some tips to try and improve his game as it did look as if he was interested in the game!

Result: 2-0 (2-0)

Round 2 vs Arron Ash
Deck: Fire/Darkness

This duel I must admit was well overdue as Arron had really wanted to play against me before during the YGO tournaments but it seemed we were destined to duel at some point after Arron managed to beat Shane in the 1st round! It was a good match, a lot better than the previous one I had but Arron's major fault was that he focused so much on attacking my shields with his creatures, that he paided no attention to my own monsters and how they were building. A few blockers and power attackers sorted it all out and while he did break a number of my shields, it ended in a straight 2-0 win for me. We played a further 2 duels afterwards to see whether it was just luck......but I guess it wasn't as I won both of them as well!

Result: 2-0 (4-0)

Round 3 vs Jonathan Cummins

Deck: Fire/Darkness

Now after we had a break after the 2nd round, we all returned for this round and when I heard I got drawn against my bro, I was well pissed as I really didn't want to get drawn against him for the simple reason that it would mean that it would hinder one of our good runs in the tournament up to that point. Well, we got underway and while it was incredibly close both duels (only 1 shield or less each time), my bro couldn't finish me off and I managed to claim victory in a very close match up. Considering the fact that my bro and I duel constantly with the same decks and that we knew each other's deck inside and out, it was tough on both of us.

Result: 2-0 (6-0)

Round 4 vs Simon Weaver
Deck: Mono Nature

After my 3rd duel, I was kinda worried about this duel as this deck I was about to face was apparantly very good so when I faced my opponent, I was rather suprised to see he was nervous and slightly shaky (hands were trembling when he was playing his cards). I had to use my Toel strategy on him to attack him and safely guard my own creatures and while he did get Raging Dashhorn on me and had some formidable creatures facing me on the field, in some cases, he ended up suiciding them into my blockers, which I couldn't understand. In the end, 2 barkwhips, a toel and a burning mane l8r, I managed to finally beat him after a strong match. His down fall came from his lack of creature removal, a.k.a Natural Snare

Result: 2-0 (8-0)

Round 5 vs Owen
Deck: Mono Light

This was the final round and myself and Owen were the only duelists with 4 wins each and his Mono Light deck was pretty strong according to the other duelists who faced him. Unfortunately, his deck was completely based on blockers and using his fatties and Diamond Cutter to overwhelm his opponents. In both my duels I basically had to rush him with Barkwhip and attack his shields, forcing him to remove his blockers to stop my aggressive attack. Eventually, my battle zone would fill up with blockers and attackers while his blockers were slowly but surely getting depleted every turn. In the 1st duel, he did do a nice combo with Miar, Comet Elemental, Urth Purifying Elemental and Laser Wing and knocked out 4 of my shields in one go but the next turn I finished him off with barkwhip. The 2nd duel was my toel combo again and he stood no chance and I ended up winning 2-0 and won my 1st ever Duel Masters tournament!

Result: 2-0 (10-0, Flawless Victory!)

I was well chuffed and I got a nice tin, 5 JDC promo's (1 Amnis, Holy Elemental, and 4 Gigaberos') and 5 boosters, which I got 2 Holy Awe's and Gigamantis as my main pulls and prizes. My bro ended up finishing in 3rd place, which was pretty good considering his only loss was to me (the shame). He got 4 JDC promo's (1 Amnis, 1 Groblav, and 2 Gigaberos') and 4 boosters (main pull was Uberdragon Jabaha) so the both of us came away with very good results from this tournament!

My thanks to Lee, the tournament organiser who did a great tournament. Nicely run m8!
