Welcome back everyone to
Pojo.com's Card of the Day! The last couple of weeks
we went through the top ten cards from Shattered
Alliances, now we're going to take a look at some of
the cards that didn't quite make it to the list
after the scores were averaged together. So let's
get things started with Pojo's own exclusive preview
card, Kivu, Ingenious Shaman.
Name: Kivu, Ingenious
Shaman
Civilization: Water/Nature
Type: Creature
Race: Cyber Virus/Spirit Totem
Level: 7
Power: 7000
Flavor Text: "If you control the cycle of
mana, you control the cycle of life."
Rarity: Very Rare
Set Number: 67/80 l 9SHA
Abilities:
(This card enters your mana zone tapped.)
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2
shields.)
Mana Guide- When this creature enters the
battle zone, you may choose a card in your mana zone
and return it to your hand. If you do, put the top
card of your deck into your mana zone.
Okay, I know we've already
reviewed this card in the past, however, now we know
everything that is in the Shattered Alliances set
and we've seen this card in action. This 7000 power
Double Breaker is still a force to be reckoned with
without an ability since it can take out popular
Dragons like Lyra and Herald, but at level 7 you
would expect that.
This card can help out with
mana-fixing for your water/nature builds but it
doesn't have any redeeming race support. Sadly it's
a Cyber Virus and Spirit Totem, sorry about that
Pojoverse... maybe someday in the future we'll get
some Cyber Virus Evos?
Probably the main and only
reason this card is or will be played in the future
is because of "Mana Guide." This ability is
something that we have never seen in Kaijudo before
and allows you to mess around with your mana zone by
taking whatever card you want out of it and having
it replaced with the top card of your deck. This
essentially gives you a toolbox of options and
allows you to avoid some discard strategies by your
opponent if you put a card you need in the mana zone
earlier on. Turn seven or so comes along, you play
Kivu, then you get back the card you needed for that
late game push or that "one-of" card that you teched
into your deck for a specific match-up.
This card also allows mana ramp
strategies to be more effective. Sending cards from
the top of your deck to your mana zone, or as I like
to call it "Blind Ramping," can put cards you need
into your mana zone since you don't get to choose
what goes in. At the very least Kivu can help
correct, or at least, curb that issue. Also, this
card, and numerous others in this set, have some
synergy with Kurragar of the Hordes. By playing Kivu
(as long as you have out Kurragar)you get a card
from your mana zone, and then you ramp one card from
the top of your deck to your mana zone. Then
Kurragar's effect triggers and you'll be able to
potentially play the top card of your deck if it's a
creature. If that creature has a ramp ability, rinse
and repeat!
Overall this card is still a
good choice as a one-two of in a deck. It creates a
bit more strategy in the game and I'm all for that.
Constructed: 3.50/5.00
(The new mechanic is still amazing but it would be
better if we got a spell that did the same effect,
similar to mesmerize/Razorkinder Puppet or Corile/Dragon
of Reflections. )
Limited: 3.00/5.00 (Kivu is a huge body to
deal with for turn seven but will often end your
turn. Not too great against aggressive decks..)
We'll see you again tomorrow
everyone with another card from Shattered Alliances!
Until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters, keep calm and game on!
