Hello my fellow Kaijudo
Duelmasters! Today we’re taking a look at a card
that made some people cringe when they found out it
was being released. This card hasn’t made a huge
impact on the game just yet, but give it time and
you might just hear more about today’s card:
Maddening Whispers.
Name: Maddening Whispers
Civilization: Darkness
Type: Spell
Race: N/A
Level: 5
Power: N/A
Flavor Text: “It WAS your fault…”
Rarity: Uncommon
Set Number: 22/80 l 9SHA
Abilities:
Your opponent chooses and discards 2 cards.
Maddening Whispers is
essentially the midway point between Fumes and Skull
Shatter. For only costing one more than Fumes, it
seems a little under-cost for this effect. Getting
rid of your opponent’s resources is always a solid
strategy. If you keep your opponent down to little
or no hand, their options become limited and they
are almost always forced to either play a card or
put it into the mana zone instead.
The biggest downside to this
card is that your opponent gets to choose what they
discard. This can allow for some people to discard
Slumbering Titan and put it into the battle zone for
free! This rarely, if ever happens; however, it may
be an upcoming tech card if discard becomes more of
a thing. In general though, by the time you get to
play Maddening Whispers, it will usually strip your
opponent of the last two cards in their hand. With
the recent addition of random discard to the game,
allowing your opponent to choose what they want to
discard is a luxury that you sometimes cannot afford
to provide them with.
This card can also serve as an
alternative to playing discard against Keeper o
Laws. Normally you don’t want to play any spells
against your opponent if they have Keeper of Laws
out since they’ll just draw a card for each one you
play. If they have two cards in their hand when you
play Maddening Whispers, you get to disrupt their
strategy and get rid of the cards that they had been
saving. Afterward, your opponent will draw one card…
so you actually broke even with them while thwarting
their plans!
Probably the best combo to use
this card with is Curse-Eye Black Feather. Each time
your opponent discards a card, you get to draw a
card. Whispers turns itself into a potential Logos
Scan all while getting rid of your opponent’s hand!
That about does it for this
card, but don’t count it out just yet; I can see big
things coming for this card in the future.
Constructed: 3.50/5.00
(Really only beneficial if your opponent has a hand.
If you can get your opponent to “Top-Deck Mode” then
you’re in a pretty solid position!)
Limited: 3.25/5.00 (In most cases you don’t
want to waste an entire turn devoting it to
discarding a card or two. In limited it can give you
the edge you need and can completely throw your
opponent off. It also happens to be a convenient
counter to Heretic Prince Var-rakka!)
I hope you enjoyed today’s
review! Until next time my fellow
Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!
