Welcome back everyone to
Thursday’s edition of the Card of the Day here at
Pojo.com! Today we’re taking a look at another dual
civilization card in two of my favorite
combinations: Darkness and Fire. This card has a
very unique effect so let’s get right down to it
with Galzak of Shadow Pass!
Name: Galzak of Shadow Pass
Civilization: Darkness /Fire
Type:
Creature
Race: Shadow Champion/Armored Dragon
Level: 7
Power: 6000+
Flavor Text:
N/A
Rarity:
Very Rare
Set Number:
97/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
(This card enters your mana zone tapped.)
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Vampiric Bite-
Whenever this creature attacks, target enemy
creature gets -3000 power until the end of the turn
and this creature gets +3000 power until the end of
the turn. (A creature that has power 0 or less is
banished.)
The first thing I noticed after
looking at its civilizations was its races. Shadow
Champions really haven’t seen much support as of yet
and it would be cool if they saw some in this set.
Conveniently though, this card is also an Armored
Dragon, and that means plenty of shenanigans for us
Herald of Infernus or Hyperspeed players out there!
For a Level 7 Dual Civilization
creature, I honestly expected his power to be more
than just 6000 with Double Breaker. So with his
Vampiric Bite ability, he’s able to do just that and
increase his power level all while draining your
opponent of theirs, just like a vampire! What makes
this ability really cool is the last sentence
enclosed in parenthesis, “A creature that has power
0 or less is banished.”! That’s amazing! This is
another example where Kaijudo and Magic the
Gathering overlap. In MTG, once a creature has 0
toughness, it dies. Now we have that mechanic
introduced into Kaijudo and this may provide us with
an alternative for dealing with smaller creatures or
rush decks.
What makes this card even more
playable is the fact that you can attack and
decrease a small blocker’s power by 3000 and banish
it, all while you boost your creature up to swing
over Tatsurion, Lyra, Bolt Tail, or even Spell Bane!
If you’re not worried about blockers, you can always
reduce the power of the creature that you’re
attacking. That means that Galzak can deal with any
creature with 11500 power (Andromeda anyone?) and it
can evenly trade off with a creature with 12000
power (Dracothane maybe?).
This gives Dragon players more
options when building their decks so that they can
more appropriately adjust their mana curve and
include new strategies into their games. I suspect
that this card may see some play in the near future
but I have no idea as to what degree as of yet, only
time will tell!
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.75/5.00 (I think if this card had an ability that
activated when entering the battle zone and when
attacking it would be a more solid card. Tatsurion
the Unchained may still maintain some popularity but
if you can keep this guy alive, he will present some
problems for your opponent.)
Limited: 4.00/5.00 (This card is great in limited as long as you can
get him out in time. If your opponent is running a
lot of low cost creatures you may never get that
chance, however, if you can get him out and start
attacking, you may turn things drastically in your
favor.)

stay tuned tomorrow when we review a card that may
single-handedly create a new competitive deck for
the Meta! Until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters, keep calm and game on!
