Welcome back everyone! Today
we'll be taking a look at one of the new Dark Lords
from Clash of the Duel Masters, Gregoria the
Malevolent. Let's get started!
Name: Gregoria the Malevolent
Civilization: Darkness
Type:
Creature
Race: Dark Lord
Level: 6
Power: 4000
Flavor Text:
"Ooh, this is going to be so much more
entertaining than the usual dry and boring truce
negotiations."
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
33/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
Subvert -When this creature enters the battle
zone, each player reveals his or her hand and
discards all spells.
If you were hoping that
Gregoria was going to sing do some chanting you're
probably in the wrong place. There's not a lot going
on for this card in terms of stats, it's just a 4000
power at Level 6. Ironically enough, it's
similar stats to Razorkinder Puppet which has
a similar effect. In general though, Gregoria may
prove to be effective in the battle of the control
mirror match and here is the reason why: Subvert.
Subvert basically allows you to
gain knowledge of your opponent's hand and
discarding all of their spells. At the same time,
however, you also must do the same. This is an
extremely beneficial card when you don't have any
spells in your hand or when your opponent is running
Darkness or Water, since they tend to run a great
deal of spells.
This can prove to be
devastating for your opponent as there is only one
way to currently get back spells to your hand and
that requires you to run Keeper of Dawn from the
Light Civilization. Since this is a turn six play,
it is likely that you may be able to hit those Root
Traps or Terror Pits that your opponent had been
holding onto to deal with your bigger threats. You
could even get rid of their Skull Shatter that they
were planning on using a turn or so down the line!
This is a very solid card
overall but it does lack the ability to choose what
you want to discard. Gregoria can completely change
the game if played at the appropriate time. If
you're playing a control variant and using Keeper of
Dawn or you're just trying to regain advantage
against your opponent, why not give this a try?
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.75/5.00 (A fairly solid card. Discarding spells from
your opponent's hand can prove to give you quite the
edge against them and is ideal against the control
player.)
Limited: 2.75/5.00 (I'm really not sure what role spells will play
in this set or even how many we'll have, however, I
imagine when you play this in limited it will
usually only get rid of one or two cards from your
opponent at most. With Dual Civilization cards
running rampant, this card is rather underpowered
against them and may seem to be a waste for six
mana.)
Make sure to stop out tomorrow
when we showcase one of the multi-civilization
spells in the set! Ready? Set? Fight! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
