Hello again everyone and welcome to Wednesday's Card of the Day here at Pojo.com! Today we'll be taking a closer look at a key card that could see a lot of combo plays in the future involving Dragon Decks. Let's get started with Dreadclaw, Dark Herald!

Name: Dreadclaw, Dark Herald
Civilization:
Darkness
Type: Creature
Race:
Terror Dragon
Level:
7
Power:
7000
Flavor Text: "You can't keep a good dragon down...or an evil one for that matter." -Master Hawkins
Rarity: Super Rare
Set Number: 26/55 I 6DSI

Abilities:

Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Night of the Dragons- When this creature enters the battle zone, return all Dragons from your discard pile to your hand.

At first glance, Dreadclaw either looks really good or really bad on paper. It's a Level 7 Double Breaker with 7000 power which is pretty standard overall. When you add in the "Night of the Dragons" effect, things get serious!

Imagine that your game has been going on a while and your opponent just seems to have the answer to every one of your creatures or has just been hitting all of the right shield blasts at the right times. You top deck into a Dreadclaw and play it; all of those Dragons that you lost previously in battle just got a second chance to get some revenge! There's no limit to the number of Dragons that you can add back to your hand and since there's no hand-limit size you can go nuts and not have to worry about discarding down at the end of your turn!

This card combos well with cards that send your dragons to the discard pile. If you're like me and like using the Darkness Civilization, you'll know that there are plenty of new cards that essentially "mill" yourself (Discard the top "X" cards from your deck to the discard pile). If you don't want to go that route, you can always use a new draw spell, "Trial and Error". You can pick and choose what Dragon to send to the discard pile and set up for a later turn to gain advantage against your opponent!

If you're running a Dragon Deck, I highly suggest at least using one of this card. If you happen to get hit with a bunch of discard from a Darkness Civilization deck or just a "Skull Shatter" in general, you can rebound from it and come back stronger than before!

Obviously, if you're playing against a nature player, cards like this won't really benefit from their effects since most of your cards will be going into your mana zone. At the very least, they will give you the ramp you need to play your bigger Dragons, so it's not a total loss.

Ratings:

Constructed: 3.50/5.00 (Average and expected stats and an amazing effect if you run a lot of Dragons and mill yourself. This would be the perfect side-deck card for people who like to discard from your hand or have a lot of shield blasts.)

Limited: 3.75/5.00 (There's plenty of ways to get this guy out earlier in the game and this set has tons of Dragons in it. It's likely that you will either add 0 cards back to your hand or in some cases more than 2-3; It all depends on what cards you play and when and how you play them!)

Stop back tomorrow to check out our next review. I'd hate for you to miss it and have to rage! Until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!

Dreadclaw review:

Today we have what I consider to be a hidden gem. Although not blatantly powerful as the other cards we have reviewed this week. Proper usage and teching can allow for serious game winning positions.

Dreadclaw, Dark Herald:
Cost 7
Darkness
Creature
Terror Dragon

Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Night of the Dragons — When this creature enters the battle zone, return all Dragons from your discard pile to your hand.
Graveyard tutor is a mechanic I always love. Bringing back creatures over and over can be just brutal. Especially if that creature has a CIP effect. Unfortunately, this mechanic needs to have a very delicate balance. In old Duel Masters, the Japanese Meta graveyard recursion became a bit too powerful, allowing you to tutor ot creatures much earlier than they needed to be.

So lets look at some not so good things. Dreadclaw is neat for of course on themed dragon support. However you have to run a certain amount of Dragons in your deck to make this an advantage gaining card. So most dragons tend to be higher cost and you have to get those destroyed first before you can make full use of this card.

So lets look at the good things. It has a huge body, 7 for 7 double breaker, nice. Takes down Unchained, TVR Tats, and crashes with Bolt Tails etc. Not to mention it can potential + a ton.

Summary:
For on themed support it is really cool. I think it will find a good place in FND dragons as a 1 of. However for off themed support there are better graveyard manipulation. Where I think this card has mad potential is when we get more kind of deck/graveyard dumping that allows us tutor out 1 of's and combo specific cards. Maybe in Clash of Duel Masters!

Constructed 3.5/5
Limited 4/5
