Hey there everyone and welcome
back to Pojo.com's Card of the Day! Today we're
continuing our week review of a certain type of
creature type, the Aquan. Today's card is one of the
best blockers in the game for its mana cost and has
seen some play but could get a ton more if utilized
with the other cards that will be reviewed later on
in the week. Let's get started by taking a closer
look at Reef Gladiator.
Name: Reef Gladiator
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Race: Aquan
Level: 3
Power: 3000+
Flavor Text: Undefeated beneath the waves.
Rarity: Uncommon
Set Number: 20/55 l 4EVO
Abilities:
Blocker
(You may tap this creature to change an enemy
creature's attack to this creature.)
Guard (This creature can't attack.)
Heart of Water- While all cards in your mana
zone are Water cards, this creature gets +3000 power
and has "Whenever this creature blocks, you may draw
a card."
Reef Gladiator is a basic 3000
blocker for 3 mana. It can't attack and it's an
Aquan, so there's not a ton of things that you can
honestly do with it... unless of course you're
running a Mono-Water deck! When all of your cards in
your mana zone are Water cards, this guy gets +3000
power, bringing him up to an amazing 6000 power for
just 3 mana, that's insane! To top things off,
whenever this card blocks you can draw a card!
This card can put a lot of
strategies on hold when playing against a Rush deck
or even against Dragons. Lyra can trade-off with
this card while others like Herald of Infernus have
no way of getting over this wall unless they have
some additional attack support. Even when your
opponent may have a larger creature attacking you,
you can save yourself from losing some shields and
replace the gladiator with another card in your
hand.
Lastly, this card is able to
evolve into a card we will be talking about later
this week, Aqua-Ranger Commando, which can seemingly
come out of nowhere if you're not prepared to face
off against a deck that can freely attack you
without fear of Blockers.
Overall this card is amazing in
a Mono-Water deck. Keep in mind that you can still
activate this effect if you have Dual-Civilization
cards in your mana zone as well, as long as one of
the civilizations is of the Water Civilization,
you're good to go! So feel free to try all sorts of
combos with this by adding in some Water/Dark or
Water/Light cards.
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.25/5.00
(Odds are that if you're running this card it's in a
Mono-Water deck. That being said, it has great
potential and can usually at least replace itself or
significantly slow your opponent down. Aquan
creatures have a really good Evolution to work with
and have a great potential when combined with the
other members of their race.)
Limited: 2.75/5.00 (It
is extremely difficult to run a Mono-Water deck in
Evo Fury Limited play. If you can build a complete
Water deck without any other Civilizations, then
this card can be amazing, however, keep in mind that
alot of the Evolutions in this set can easily take
down 6000 power by turn four or five!)
Stop by again tomorrow when we take a look at a card
that just never seems to stay banished! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
