Hello again everyone and
welcome back to another week of reviews at Pojo.com!
This week I picked out some cards that have the
potential to see some play in the future and also
have a generalized theme to them. I also found it
appropriate with summer starting that we start the
week off with a splash! Let's take a look at Aqua
Strider.
Name: Aqua Strider
Civilization: Light/Water
Type: Creature
Race: Enforcer/Aquan
Level: 2
Power: 4000
Flavor Text: “What wouldn't you do to master
your art?"
Rarity: Common
Set Number: 71/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
Blocker
(You may tap this creature to change an enemy
creature's attack to this creature.)
Skirmisher (This creature can attack only
creatures.)
Aqua Strider is a very basic
card that we've seen many times before in the form
of Jade Monitor. They both have 4000 power, Blocker,
and Skirmisher. One of the biggest differences
between the two is that this card costs one entire
mana less than Jade Monitor!
This has been seeing play in a
lot of Water/Dark/Light Control decks as it's an
easy way to deal with those pesky Rush decks since
you can freely block one of their creatures and then
swing at any others that were foolish enough to
swing in the first place!
If you're just looking for
added consistency to your deck, this could prove to
be quite useful as well. This card unlocks both
Light and Water mana in your mana zone with just one
card and is great for those early plays when you're
trying to set up your mana.
Lastly, let's take a look at
Strider's races. It's both an Enforcer and an Aquan
which can open up many doors in the future for
evolution plays! There are currently four evolution
choices for the Enforcer player and one for the
Aquans. With a new set less than three months away,
I suspect that we'll see those numbers increase and
the overall playability of this card increase even
further.
This is one of those cards that
is slowly becoming a staple card in the deck and
forces your opponent to use Bone Blades or larger
removal spells just to get rid of it. Cards like
Heat Seekers and Barrage do absolutely nothing
against this card and may slowly phase them out from
the mainstream play even more than using Jade
Monitor did in the recent past. Expect to see this
card fixing your opponent's mana or hitting the
battle zone on turn two or three consistently at an
upcoming tournament near you!
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.50/5.00
(Strider is a solid Blocker that can significantly
slow your opponent down as soon as turn two.)
Limited: 4.25/5.00 (An
amazing Blocker to put the game on your time, not
your opponent's! Set up whatever plays you need,
this card isn't going anywhere for a couple turns!)
Check back tomorrow when we continue our trend with
a card that rewards you for using only one
civilization... or at least it used to! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
