It's Friday and it's Flag Day as
well as the official release date of the movie "Man
of Steel". Great movie by the way! What does the man
of steel have to do with today's card review? Both
are extremely powerful and are all about upholding
the law. Let's take a look at this amazing card from
Clash of the Duel Masters: Keeper of Laws.
Name: Keeper of Laws
Civilization: Light
Type:
Creature
Race: Storm Patrol
Level: 4
Power: 3500
Flavor Text:
Even in peacetime, each keeper of laws travels
with an honor guard of thunder cruisers.
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
7/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
Deflecting Aura- While you have another
creature in the battle zone, this creature can't be
the target of your opponent's spells and abilities.
Spell Siphon-Whenever
your opponent casts a spell, you may draw a card.
Keeper of Laws is a level 4 Storm
Patrol creature with 3500 power from the Light
Civilization. It's race doesn't really give it any
extra playability but it really doesn't need any
extra benefits with the beneficial effects it
already has in store for your opponent.
First of all, Wizards of the coast
directly stated: "Keeper of Laws was made to help
fight off control decks...". This is done quite well
but at the same time, it has given control decks an
extra tool for their arsenal to make them stronger
and more resilient than ever before!
When you have any other creature
in the battle zone, Keeper of Laws becomes
untargetable by your opponent. That means that you
don't have to worry about cards like Bone Blades,
Terror Pit, Root Trap, Lyra, Infernus the
Awakened/Immolator, and so
on! It's usually a good idea to keep a
creature nearby (much like Keeper's flavor text
states) so you can further benefit from this card.
This ability also allows you to push in for game
when it gets to that point in your duel. Knowing
that your Keeper can attack freely with the only
real concern being Stormspark Blast (since it
doesn't target a specific creature). This card is
everything that King Neptas had hoped to be and so
much more!
Looking at the second ability is
when things get nutty.
Every time
your opponent plays a spell card, you have the
option to draw a card! So if you happen to have
multiples of this guy out in your battle zone, you
can have a field day against your opponent where
every spell they play turns into your own personal
version of Logos Scan! If your opponent was trying
to hit you with some early discard, this card can
bring you back into the game and give you so much
more to work with. Whenever this card is out, I have
been able to frequently draw 1-2 extra cards in a
given turn and I don't believe this card has ever
been able to be taken out as long as I've had
another creature in the battle zone!
The only real cards that this guy
fears are a turn three Mesmerize and Stormspark
Blast (and other similar spells that don't target).
With that being said, this card is extremely
powerful and
will see a great deal of play as it already has
been in one of the KMC winning decks of one of our
past COTD writers, Andy Criss AKA Aiden Thorne. This
card is just crazy in a control game and it can even
bring home some beats if you need it to as 3500 is
nothing to shake a stick at. Expect to start seeing
this card played in just about every deck there is
that runs Light... it's just that good.
Ratings:
Constructed: 5.00/5.00 (You likely won't be targeting it and even if
you do, you'll still be gaining a card off of it.
It's 3500 power and punishes the opposing control
player... it's almost like a variation of Spellbane
Dragon.)
Limited: 5.00/5.00 (Don't worry about decking yourself out, this
card allows you to choose when you draw making it
that much more amazing in a limited game.)
I hope you enjoyed the reviews this week, we look
forward to seeing you all next week! Until next time
my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game
on!
