Welcome back my fellow Kaijudo
Duel Masters! Today we're looking at a card that
used to be used in a lot of decks when the game
first came out. This card still has plenty of
viability but most people seem to choose other cards
over it. Let's take a look at Fumes!
Name:
Fumes
Civilization: Darkness
Type:
Creature
Race: Tarborg
Level: 4
Power: 2000
Flavor Text:
"Uh, Ray? You may wanna wash your hands," Gabe
said. "Like, a thousand times," Allie added.
Rarity:
Common
Set Number:
75/165 l 3RIS
Abilities:
Stinky- When this creature enters the battle
zone, your opponent chooses and discards a card.
Fumes was one of those cards I
looked at when the game first hit hobby shelves and
I wasn't too sure about the game mainly because of
the effect "Stinky". I got past it though and went
on to use it on occasion in my Darkness/Water decks.
The card is turn four specter claw with a 2000 power
creature attached. Going off of its stats, it pretty
much gets banished by about every removal spell in
this game, however, that's not always a bad thing.
After all you did likely use its effect and got rid
of one card in your opponent's hand after all, so
whatever happens after that point, Fumes has served
its purpose and caused you to break even in card
advantage.
Playing this card and other
discard cards early game can put your opponent in a
very bad position to where they'll need to put every
card they draw into their mana zone, giving them
turn after turn of empty plays.
This card becomes even better
when you combo it with cards that can bring it back
from your discard pile. Return From Beyond and
Dracothane of the Abyss are amazing cards that can
give you extra creature in the battle zone and allow
you to activate their effects all over again! Why
not combo this card with some of my personal
favorite tech, King Coral? Every time you play a
Leviathan you can bounce Fumes or other creatures
that have an enter the battle zone ability to your
hand and reuse them the following turn!
Overall this card has a lot of
potential but can be thwarted by cards like Infernus
the Awakened or Slumbering Titan. Any card that can
get rid of a card your opponent controls is well
worth considering, however, Fumes tends to be
overshadowed by Mesmerize and Razorkinder who allow
you to see what card you discard and the opponent's
entire hand as well. Why not try using them all in a
deck?
Ratings:
Constructed:
3.25/5.00 (Definitely not a powerhouse but can
create some early advantage against your opponent!)
Limited:
4.00/5.00 (Early board presence and getting rid
of your opponent's resources is really good in
limited!)
Stop by again tomorrow when we
take a look at another card that saw a ton of play
in Darkness decks! Make sure to check out my channel
