hand from a broken shield, you may cast it for
free.)
Banish target enemy creature that has power 3000 or
less.
Choose a creature in your discard pile that is level
4 or less and return it to your hand.
Soul Vortex is the first
Dual-Civilization spells for Darkness and Fire.
There was a great deal of speculation about what the
card was going to do before the set was released and
I think this card had a lot more potential than the
effect that was given to it.
Vortex allows you to banish a
creature your opponent controls as long as it has
3000 or less power and then you can choose a
creature from your discard pile and add it to your
hand as long as it is a level 4 or less. These are
the biggest constraints on this card and will likely
take away from its playability in the constructed
environment.
With the introduction of Clash
of the Duel Masters, there were a lot of new
creatures that were seeing play, specifically: Aqua
Strider, Fullmetal Lemon, and Sword Horned. All of
these low costing creatures have one thing in
common, they each have more than 3000 power. Unless
you're playing against a Rush deck or some other
variant that uses low power creatures, this card
will often miss the first effect. Secondly, we have
the recursion ability. This effect would have made
the card a little more redeemable if it had left out
the part where you have to return a level 4 or less
to your hand from your discard pile. So instead of
giving us Rock Bite and Dark Return in one card they
actually weakened it. Who really has been playing
Rock Bite anyway? I suppose I could see some
reasonable use for Heat Seekers on occasion but not
so much this card.
The other downside of this card
is that it's a whopping five mana to play. For that
cost I would expect this card to banish an untapped
creature and return a creature from your discard
pile to your hand. Actually... if it did have that
effect, they may want to increase the cost by one.
Regardless, I have not seen this card successfully
used as of yet but there may be a time when it may
be more relevant, however, now it's just not that
viable in my opinion.
Ratings:
Constructed: 2.25/5.00 (There are better options than using this
card. Stick with Grip of Despair or even Death
Smoke. If you're looking for recursion, try out Dark
Return or even Megaria the Collector.)
Limited:
3.50/5.00 (In limited you should see a little
more in the department of smaller creatures. Decent
removal and it will often give you back a creature
that was banished a turn or two earlier.)
Stop back again tomorrow when
we continue to look at more cards from the Triple
Strike deck! Make sure to check out my channel for
new content and until next time my fellow Kaijudo
Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!
