Welcome back everyone to
Pojo.com's Card of the Day! I hope you all had a
great weekend and are excited for more card reviews
and discussion aka my thoughts on the cards that
we're reviewing! Make sure to check out my channel
as well as my new team channel on YouTube for lots
of new content including a contest in case any of
you readers out there want a Keeper of Laws. Anyway,
this week we have a lot of great cards to look over
and we'll start things off with a card that seems to
be a thorn in quite a few player's sides: Mesmerize.
Name: Mesmerize
Civilization: Dark
Type:
Spell
Race: N/A
Level: 3
Power: N/A
Flavor Text:
"I don't know which is worse: knowing my mind
was attacked or not knowing what was stolen." -Ray
Rarity:
Uncommon
Set Number:
35/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
Your opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose a
card from it and your opponent discards that card.
Mesmerize is an amazing card
and here's why: It gets rid of an opponent's card
that they could use or really needed and it gives
you information about what your opponent can do for
several turns down the line. People used to run
Razorkinder Puppet just to get this effect off
regardless of the fact that it cost 6 mana and only
had a 3000 power body. Now imagine that effect being
dropped on you on turn 3... if you were hoping for a
convenient progression of your mana curve you were
sadly mistaken!
This card gives you knowledge
of what's in your opponent's hand and allows you to
plan accordingly. If you see a Bone Blades, odds are
that you won't play a level 4 or less creature
unless you need to stall for time or if it's a
creature that has a beneficial effect that occurs
when it's banished. You know if they're trying to
set up for Herald of Infernus, if they are getting
ready to play their Keeper of Laws, or any Evolution
plays, especially with the recent popularity of Hive
Queen.
This card becomes even more
ridiculous when you combo it with Keeper of Dawn.
You can reuse this card over and over again until
your opponent has no more resources to work with.
Wizards of the Coast introduced Slumbering Titan to
assist in dealing with discard strategies, however,
with Mesmerize out it becomes almost impossible to
get your opponent to discard that card or even
warrant using it in a deck.
Mesmerize is a really good card
and is frustrating to be on the opposing side of it,
unless of course you already have a Keeper of Laws
out, then it's okay. Expect this card to be ruining
your day in the near future since it will be in just
about every deck running the Darkness
civilization... and that's a lot of decks!
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.50/5.00 (An amazing card that gives you information
and disrupts your opponent's strategy in the early
game and not too shabby in late game either.)
Limited:
3.75/5.00 (In limited you may need to focus on
playing more early creatures rather than casting
spells. Still a great card regardless.)
Stop back again tomorrow when
we take a look at that card... Oh, I had it just a
minute ago! Thanks Mesmerize, now I forgot what my
Tuesday card was... Anywho, make sure to check out
my channel for new content and until next time my
fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!
