Today’s Card of the Day is another member of the Fire Civilization that is a very different card from Bolt-Tail Dragon which was reviewed yesterday.

Enter Lord Skycrusher... a Level 7 Armored Dragon with 7,000 Power and Double Breaker (sounds a lot like Bolt-Tail so far...). His ability is what sets him apart from Bolt-Tail Dragon, here it is: Royal Command- Whenever this creature attacks, choose one of your other creatures. It gets +5,000 power and “Double Breaker” until the end of the turn! A truly powerful ability but let’s assess this in some more detail before we jump to any conclusions just yet.

The Pros:

He can make any fast attacker almost impossible to deal with. Gilaflame becomes a 10,000 power that breaks two shields after Skycrusher does his thing... heck even a Blaze Belcher can swing in there for 6,000 power and Double Breaker essentially! You can even combo this card with Magma Madness (Give one of your creatures +4,000 power when it attacks and Double Breaker) and Twilight Commander (When this creature attacks you may choose a creature that has less power than this creature and untap it.) assuming you have something else you’d like to give a boost to. Obviously this is an unlikely situation but not impossible to pull off... personally I’m more of a fan of the Alcadeus/Twilight Commander/Magma Madness Endless Attack combo (assuming you don’t hit any shield blasts).

He’s a 7,000 power creature at level 7 with Double Breaker and an amazing effect. Definitely worth the cost and fairly easy to see play in most games.

The Cons:

The biggest issue I see with this card is that he sits around for a turn doing nothing... He’s not a blocker and can’t attack right away making your turn sort of meh... Enter the battle zone abilities are all the rage right now. Everyone wants something now and doesn’t want to wait around to see something happen, especially when you just paid seven mana to summon such an awesome creature!

Skycrusher dies to a larger variety of cards out there compared to his armored dragon brethren, Bolt-Tail. Since he normally won’t be attacking the turn he’s summoned, Razorkinder and Death Smoke are obvious choices for his banishment. Let’s not forget that if you’re playing against the Water Civilization, he can easily be bounced back to your hand... which makes you have to use up another turn just to summon him again.

The easiest way to correct his inherent flaw is to combo him with Hyperspeed Dragon. As long as you have another Armored Dragon in the battle zone, this card will allow all of your Armored Dragons to attack the turn that they hit the field!

Constructed: 3.00/5.00 (A very good card but requires a little patience or the use of some combos to make it truly effective.)

Limited: 3.75/5.00 (A non-evolution creature with his power and abilities can easily make any other creature you control just as powerful as Skycrusher himself!)

Stop by tomorrow when we might just review a card that was involved in the “Watergate Scandal”... or not, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still check it out! I’m told that it’s top secret information but I’ll share tomorrow’s card with you today, it’s

Lord Skycrusher

The ruler of the Fire civilization (For now) blesses us with his presence. Wielding the Sword of Fiery Cataclysm, all Fire civilization creatures must obey him! Let's take a look before he decides to eat us!

Lord Skycrusher
Cost: 7
Civilization: Fire
Type: Creature
Race: Armored Dragon

Card Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Royal Command - Whenever this creature attacks, choose one of your other creatures. It gets +5000 power and "Double Breaker" until the end of the turn.

Skycrusher had his 15 minutes of fame, and even then he wasn't all that famous. He has a very powerful effect, when it works, that's his problem; he pales in consistency to many of the other finishers you could play.

Don't entirely count him out quite yet, with Dragonstrike right around the corner he may find a new home on the battlefield.

Constructed Rating: 2/5

AHShadow

Hello again! AHShadow here with another Kaijudo COTD! Today’s card is the ruler of the fire civilisation: Lord Skycrusher!

Lord Skycrusher is a level 7 creature of the fire civilisation and is from the Armored Dragon race! He has an attack power of 7000 and possesses two abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Royal Command — Whenever this creature attacks, choose one of your other creatures. It gets +5000 power and "'Double Breaker” until the end of the turn.

Advantages:
Lord Skycrusher carries a very interesting ability in Royal Command. This ability is able to boost any monster on the field by 5000 power and gives them “Double Breaker”! This can be particularly useful when you are facing a big creature and you only have lower creatures on your side of the field! Giving your lower creatures a 5000 power boost will often be enough to take out most of the bigger creatures! Don’t forget that Royal Command not only boosts your other creatures attack, it also gives them Double Breaker! If you have at least one other creature on the field complimenting your Lord Skycrusher, this means that you will have the possibility to break AT LEAST 4 shields!

Disadvantages:
Although the advantage Lord Skycrusher can give you in a duel is really amazing, it is actually pretty hard to pull his effect off without anything going wrong! Since you need at least two monsters on the field and both of them need to be attacking for Skycrusher’s effect to be useful, this means that you will have to wait a minimum of two turns before being able to use Lord Skycrusher to his maximum potential! Your opponent, except if he willingly wants to lose, will probably not give you the chance to set up this combo and will try to remove your cards as soon as possible. A simple Bones Blade, Heat Seeker, Tornado Flame, Ice Blade, Veil Vortex or Return to the Soil will be able to take care of your “lower attack creature” and a Terror Pit or Root Trap will be able to take care of your Lord Skycrusher. And your combo can also be stopped if you hit any relevant shield blasts when you are actually going to attack with Lord Skycrusher!

Summary:
Lord Skycrusher is definitely an interesting card, but more often than not, it takes too much investment to pull of this combo, since it is so easily disturbed! I would definitely want to play Tatsurion, the Unchained in its place, but could be good if you are on a budget.

Lord Skycrusher

Civilization - Fire

Level - 7

Power - 7000 {Double Breaker}

Royal Command - When this creature attacks choose one of your other creatures, that creature gets +5000 power and "Double breaker" this turn.

On first impressions lord sky crusher truly is impressive, he has 7000 for 7, which isn't a bad power to mana ratio at will and when he attacks he gives a creature an extra 5000 power and double breaker. Making him a de facto triple breaker.

Having tried him in several fire builds however, he just feels very unwieldy, i always wanted another finisher over him, he went into mana quite often, and even when i did play him it was often just because he was a finisher rather than because of his ability to grant double breaker status. His effect is just unwieldy.

There might be the right hyperspeed dragon build out there for him, but i doubt it. Furthermore i don't expect him to be improved come dragonstrike infernus because well dragons tend to be huge fatties who already have double breaker, and even if we get some smaller creatures to help our dragons we'll also have more dragons to compete with him.

Sorry Skycrusher.

Gorby
Twitter

Welcome back, Kaijudo duelists! Gorby here with another Card of the Day review. Today’s card is none other than the interim ruler (well, former interim ruler now that Infernus the Immolator has awoke n) of the Fire civilization, Lord Skycrusher! Let’s get right into it with a look at the card’s stats.

Name: Lord Skycrusher
Civilization:
Fire
Race:
Armored Dragon
Cost:
7
Power:
7000
Abilities:
Double Breaker, Royal Command

Like yesterday’s Card of the Day, Bolt-Tail Dragon, Lord Skycrusher was released in Kaijudo’s Dojo Edition. However, unlike Bolt-Tail, Lord Skycrusher was not reprinted in Rise of the Duel Masters, making Lord Skycrusher a Dojo exclusive! So, if you want to pick up a copy for your collection, pay a visit to your local comic shop and see if they have any Dojo packs left or look for some trades here on Pojo’s Kaijudo forum!

At first glance, Lord Skycrusher seems fairly standard: 7 cost, 7000 power, Double Breaker; all fairly typical fare for finishers in Kaijudo. That power is certainly nothing to shake a stick at; 7000 power beats over a lot of commonly played cards in the game currently, but let’s take a look at what really makes him stand out from the crowd. Lord Skycrusher’s ability “Royal Command” says that when Lord Skycrusher attacks, you choose one of your other creatures in the Battle Zone and that creature receives +5000 power and Double Breaker until the end of the turn. Impressive, right? Making your smaller creatures able to beat over your opponent’s larger creatures or making them able to break two shields when they couldn’t previously is always cool. It’s not difficult to see why this creature was so popular as a finisher in the Dojo era of Kaijudo, and with the advent of Hyperspeed Dragon in 3RIS, Lord Skycrusher remained a very real threat alongside the likes of Tatsurion the Unchained and Moorna, Gatling Dragon.

But how does Lord Skycrusher stack up in the current meta, which is so dominated by evolutions? Outside of Hyperspeed Dragon-based decks (which are usually backed by Nature for mana acceleration), this card is pretty lackluster. It’s just so vulnerable to removal, coming down on the same turn that popular cards like Terror Pit, Root Trap, and Razorkinder become live. Additionally, having to wait a turn for a card to be effective can be impractical in a meta dominated by fast attacking, double breaking evolutions or evolutions with valuable come-into-play effects like Hydra Medusa. Even non-evolution finishers like Dark Scaradorable or Tatsurion the Unchained with come-into-play effects are more valuable because they don’t have to wait a turn to be effective.

IN REVIEW
Rating (constructed) 1/5
– This card is really only viable in Hyperspeed Dragon decks, and even those decks have fallen by the wayside lately in favor of decks that use evolutions or cards with valuable come-into-play effects. Even in Hyperspeed Dragon decks, options like Tatsurion the Unchained and Moorna, Gatling Dragon are more popular due to their ability to provide some much-needed field control. All in all, this card just generally isn’t worth playing right now.
