Another day of card reviews but
first, Wizards gave us new information about
Organized
Play yesterday! If you missed it check out the
articles section on the Kaijudo page or visit
Kaijudo.com; it’s definitely worth reading! Also, it
appears there were some Kaijudo Duelists involved in
the shaping of our future organized play and were
aware of it for several weeks, including our very
own COTD writer, “Aiden Thorne”! Congrats man, hope
you enjoyed your stay at WOTC! Anyways, it’s a lot
of good news and can only bring more to this game
and its future! So onward with today’s card:
Blastforge Captain!
Name: Blastforge Captain
Civilization: Fire
Race: Drakon
Level: 5
Power: 4000
Flavor Text:
“Have you ever wondered where all the craters in
the Fire civilization come from?” –Master Chavez
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
35/55 l 4EVO
Abilities:
Evolution- Put on one of your Drakons.
Craterize-
Whenever this creature attacks, banish any number of
target enemy creatures that have a total power 4000
or less.
Blastforge Captain is one of
those cards that you will see in a “Rush” deck
variant. The idea of the deck is to beat your
opponent in the face as quickly as possibly until
you win regardless of what you have to sacrifice to
achieve it. The captain is a little backward in that
regard since he takes cards away from your opponent
instead. For a lot of lower powered creatures, this
guy can serve as a dual Comet Missile or mini
Barrage if your opponent has a Cyber Sprite and a
Reef-Eye in the Battle Zone, this guy can banish
both of them before they can even have a chance to
block! He also easily deals with commonly played
cards such as Aqua Seneschal or Scaradorable of
Gloom Hollow!
In an attempt to balance this
card out, Wizards decided that it would be best to
make him have 4000 power for a Level 5 Evolution
creature. I mean, after what they did with Neuron
and Medusa, I’m surprised they didn’t at least give
him an even 5000 power instead or “Double Breaker”.
This is generally where this card is lacking and
makes it easier to deal with but it is still a very
viable card in the right deck.
Speaking of which, this guy
fits right into a Drakon “Rush” build. There are
plenty of low level Drakons to work with to get him
out and generally by the time he does hit the field,
your opponent will more than likely have at least
one target that will get “Craterized”!
This is definitely a fun card
to play around with in Limited play and may find a
spot in some competitive decks in the future when we
start seeing more tournaments and results; only time
will tell.
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.25/5.00 (A good card that can get rid of 1-3 of your
opponent’s cards in its lifespan on average.
Generally an easy card to deal with after it enters
the battle zone via
any other
Evolution creature or bigger kill spell.)
Limited: 3.50/5.00 (In Limited its ability is really good as it can
banish Evolution fodder before it’s able to
transform and craterize the captain himself. That
can be played around however and it’s not a
traumatic issue to lose one shield to a Level 5
creature.)
Stop out tomorrow when we look
to see what utilizing a single civilization deck can
do for you; see you then!
