We're half way through the week
and just two days (including today) are left before
Wizards runs out of time for their Organized Play
announcement! I would say that we are all patiently
waiting but I'm not so sure I can back that one up!
I can say that hundreds, possibly thousands of
people, are anxiously awaiting this announcement, so
keep your eyes and ears peeled for that information;
I will post on my Twitter account (@Raijinku) when I
find out as well! Now, the reason all of you are
here, today's card of the day: Evo Fury Tatsurion!
Name: Evo Fury Tatsurion
Civilization: Fire
Race: Armored Dragon/Beast Kin
Level: 7
Power: 12,000
Flavor Text:
None
Rarity:
Super Rare
Set Number:
S4/S5 l 4EVO
Abilities:
Evolution-Put on one of your Armored Dragons.
Triple
Breaker- (This creature breaks 3 shields.)
Dragon Wings-
When this creature enters the battle zone, target
enemy creature can't attack or block until the start
of your next turn.
As you can see, I'm trying a
slightly new format; we'll see how that goes. Evo
Fury Tatsurion, just so happens to share his name
with that of the set that he hails from,
coincidence? I think not! This is the largest
creature in this game so far in terms of base power
level, this is also our first Triple Breaker... but
I feel this is pushing things too far a little too
soon. We all know that we would eventually get a
Triple or even Quadra/Quatro/Quadro Breaker in the
future, but not even six months out of the gate? I
think I know some R&D members that are from the Fire
Civilization and like to play
Rush
decks! Let's just hope that they don't fall into the
same issue as they did with Duel Masters and the
"Power Creep" issue of making creatures bigger and
badder in every set.
This card is immensely powerful
and will likely remain on the field unless hit with
a Terror Pit/Root Trap. There are only a few
creatures that can even come close to this guys
power level, one in particular just happens to be
another
Tatsurion Evolution card!
His ability "Dragon Wings," is
reminiscent of the recently new "Detain" mechanic in
Magic The Gathering (Also a Wizards product). It's
also similar to Screeching Scaradorable's secondary
"You can't block!" ability. The ability itself
protects yourself from an oncoming attack next turn
if they don't have a blocker and if they do, this
may ensure you three less shields on your opponents
side of the field. I don't know about you, but to me
this has a feel of
mixing
civilizations to a degree, which is convenient,
since in "Dragonstrike Infernus" we get
multi-colored cards!
Probably the biggest downside
to this card is that he's an evolution for Armored
Dragons. He text could have read: Put on one of your
Armored Dragons or Beast Kin; he is both races after
all! Armored Dragons are very high cost creatures
over all, the lowest being a Level 5 creature!
Expect to be waiting a while before you're evolving
Evo Fury and don't expect to pull off this Tatsurion
from nowhere, since it will cost you 12 mana minimum
to cast him if you don't have any requirements on
the field already!
This card was seriously
overhyped in this set and still is an amazing card,
however, right now with the Armored Dragon support
we have, it is entirely too slow to run in most
decks.
Ratings:
Constructed: 2.50/5.00 (Far too slow in our current environment and
lacking a lot of support to really pose much of a
threat.)
Limited: 2.00/5.00 (Armored Dragons are hard to come by in sealed
and even so, you'll be waiting a while just to cast
one of them, let alone Evo Fury.)
Check back tomorrow when we go
over a more viable evolution creature that can deal
with a lot of problems one at a time or all at once;
see ya then!
