It’s a new month and we have a
whole new batch of cards planned to review for next
week! For now though, let’s finish off our Friday
with a card called Drakon Warchief.
Name: Drakon Warchief
Civilization: Fire
Race: Drakon
Level: 4
Power: 3000+
Flavor Text:
None
Rarity:
Uncommon
Set Number:
37/55 l 4EVO
Abilities:
Heart of Fire-
While all cards in your mana zone are Fire cards,
this creature has “Fast Attack” and “Powerful Attack
+2000.” (A creature that has “Fast Attack” can
attack on the turn it enters the battle zone. A
creature that has “Powerful Attack +2000” gets
+20000 power while attacking.)
This is the Fire civilization
card in the set that benefits from a player only
using the Fire civilization in their deck. What
benefit do we get? We get a Level 4 creature that
can attack right away for 5000 power… not bad, but
almost an identical copy of another Drakon we know
called, “Gilaflame, The Assaulter”. The only major
difference is that Gilaflame returns to your hand at
the end of your turn while Warchief maintains his
reign in the battle zone.
If you plan on running a “Rush”
deck like I stated earlier in the week, then this
card is for you! Having access to six level four
“Fast Attack” creatures is pretty good and it helps
that they’re all Drakons, so you can also have the
extra versatility of evolving them into a Blastforge
Captain if you’re having trouble dealing with some
smaller creatures in the battle zone.
Warchief is good at being
aggressive but he will die to just about everything
that can be blasted from a shield zone. Since he
stays on the field, he’s more susceptible to attacks
on your opponents turn; let’s not forget his power
goes back down to 3000 when he’s not attacking!
I was hoping for an overall
better effect if Wizards really wanted to push
people to use a mono-colored deck. Water gets a huge
blocker that draws you a card, Nature gets a huge
8000 double breaking creature by turn three to five,
Light gets a versatile blocker/attacker with
respectable power for its level, and Darkness gets
Medusa-bait that returns creatures from your discard
pile back to your hand. Fire sort of got the burnt
end of the stick and got a lukewarm version of
Gilaflame, that’s it.
Ratings:
Constructed: 2.75/5.00 (Only playable in a mono-colored deck. Most
people are splashing multiple colors in their deck
to provide them with more options; mono-fire leaves
much to be desired at this point in the game and
forces you to run an aggressive deck since there
aren’t any fire blockers.)
Limited: 3.25/5.00 (This guys a little better in Limited as he is
aggressive earlier on and unless your opponent is
playing with the Water civilization, odds are they
won’t be blocking much.)
I hope you guys enjoyed this
week of reviews. We’ll see you guys back here again
on Monday; until then, enjoy your weekend and Super
Bowl related activities!
