Hello to all of my fellow Kaijudo masters and
newcomers alike. Today I have number three in the
top ten cards from Invasion Earth. Today’s card has
made waves in our meta as it appeared quite a few
decks during the winter championship, including our
reigning champ, Bobby Brake’s dragon deck and even
in Mark Woodin’s Kalima Control build. So, let’s
take a look at today’s card, Reverberate.
Name: Reverberate
Civilization: Light/Water
Type: Spell
Level: 6
Flavor Text: “Raiden, your gauntlet could
provide you with valuable information…if you only
focused harder.” –Specialist Isao
Rarity: Rare
Set Number:
39/80 | 10INV
Abilities:
(This card enters the mana zone tapped.)
Draw a card for each shield you have.
Upon first seeing this card when Invasion Earth was
released, it immediately drew my attention seeing
that this level of draw power has only been seen on
King Tritonus himself. If you have five shields by
turn six and you play this card in a timely manner,
you can pretty much overwhelm your opponent seeing
that you are now so many turns ahead as far as hand
advantage goes. Unless your opponent has an
immediate answer to discard a good chunk, if not all
the cards from your hand, it’s bound to be a long
game for them.
This card can also be used in combination
with card such as Andromeda, Cobalt, the Storm
Knight as even Serpens, the Spirit Shifter as they
allow you to have more than five shields, which
means Reverberate will put more than five cards in
your hand in one play! I think that’s crazy and
super powerful. There is no other card in this game
with that kind of draw power. I think this card is
the most powerful in decks like Kalima Control
seeing that it does not have much drawn power, but
it can consistently strip the opponent of his or her
hand, making Reverberate an optimal choice. There
aren’t many things better than having a full hand
while your opponent top decks.
Now don’t get me wrong, this card comes with
downsides as well. As the card itself states, you
only get to draw cards equal to the number of
shields that you have and in my testing against
aggressive strategies, Reverberate can become dead
weight. If you can’t keep your opponent off your
shields soon enough, Reverberate will turn into a
turn six Logos Scan and at that point, you would
much rather play Logos Scan for 3 mana. The card can
also feel like dead weight in the late game when you
need answers, but your deck is depleting and decking
out becomes a factor. It doesn’t happen often, but
when it does, it can be a let down.
Ending on a brighter note, I think that this
card is the most powerful card for draw power in the
game. The potential of being able to draw five or
more cards in one turn is too good to pass up on.
The card’s only con is that it does rely on how many
shields you have, so when you don’t have any, the
card is pretty much useless
Constructed: 4.50/5.00
(Reverberate can be very rewarding when played
promptly and can get you ahead in the game. But if
your opponent gets to your shields early on,
Reverberate can be dead in your hand.)
Limited: 2.50/5.00
(Reverberate can definitely be good in a limited
format, but you’ll most likely only pull one and on
turn six, you are more likely to turn to more
aggressive options to win sooner rather than later.)
I hope everyone enjoys this
review and I hope you pull as many of this card as
possible! Until next time, play hard and have fun!
