Hello again my fellow Kaijudo
Duelists! We're closing in on the last two cards on
my top ten list from Invasion Earth, so you know
they've got to be good cards! Today's card was
originally revealed to us through some "Viral
Marketing" during the message from the Choten. This
was, in my opinion, one of the most entertaining
ways to spoil a card as there were initially only
pieces revealed and we had to put the corrupted
jigsaw together; Great job Wizards! So by now I'm
sure you know that today's card is Seneschal,
Choten's Lieutenant; let's get started!
Name: Seneschal,
Choten's Lieutenant
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Race: Corrupted/Cyber Lord
Level: 4
Power: 3000
Flavor Text: "It appears I need to step up my
timetable."
Rarity: Very Rare
Set Number: 13/80 l 10INV
Abilities:
Second-in-Command- Whenever one of your
Corrupted creatures attacks, you may draw a card.
Cloaking Field- Each of your Corrupted creatures
can't be the target of your opponent's spells that
are level 4 or less.
When this card was first
revealed, I didn't think too much of it. I figured
it had the same ability as the regular seneschal but
for an additional mana with a slight protection
ability. Well, once I started playing against the
card, all of that changed! I've played against
someone who dropped a turn two and three Corrupted
creature, followed by Seneschal. Both of the
creatures would go to the mana zone if they were
banished thanks to Bronze-Arm Renegade, so getting
rid of them would only fuel my opponent's end goal
even more. So essentially they'll get two extra
cards from Seneschal's "Second-in-Command" ability
and then they get extra mana if I choose to block or
banish them in some way!
What makes things even more
difficult is the "Cloaking Field" ability. This
effect essentially gives your opponent's creatures a
"semi-hexproof" ability, being unable to be the
target of any spell as long as it's level 4 or less.
Seeing as most players will have Seneschal out by
turn four, it's nearly impossible to remove him or
his followers from the board without some kind of
creature removal or effect. This makes things
all-the-worse when they drop a turn five Vicious
Squillace Scourge. It's bad enough that you can't
play Bone Blades on Seneschal and crew or Piercing
Judgment to slow down your opponent's strategy, but
when your opponent drops a level 5 creature with
9000 power that's unblockable with slayer and gives
all your other Corrupted creatures the same
benefits, it's just insane!
There are very few options that
any deck has on turn five to deal with Vicious and
even then, they aren't the greatest. I've found
myself hoping for shield blasts because I didn't
have the answer in hand for it. It may seem like
Vicious is the problem, but in fact it's Seneschal.
Giving all of your evo-bait a form of protection
from your opponent and allowing you to draw into
your other options in your deck will win you games.
If you only run Corrupted creatures, Seneschal
basically turns into a turn four General Finbarr
without the bounce. Oh... and to make things worse,
the deck can utilize Finbarr as well!
Be prepared for Corrupted decks
to be on the rise in the next couple of months. They
are very good if built and piloted correctly and can
be a pain in the neck when trying to deal with them.
Constructed: 4.50/5.00
(The only thing that keeps this card from having a
perfect score from me is that he only has 3000
power. So if you don't have Vicious out, he can
easily be blocked or revenge killed.)
Limited: 4.25/5.00 (Amazing card that just
doesn't die to removal and provides extra protection
to your other Corrupted creatures. Really weak in
terms of power though and can easily be trampled
over.)
I hope you enjoyed number two
on the list, stay tuned for numbers one tomorrow!
