Hello again my fellow Kaijudo
Duel Masters! I hope you all enjoyed yesterday's
exclusive preview card from Wizards of the Coast!
Also make sure to check out my channel and team
channel for new content! Today we're taking a look
at a card from Clash of the Duel Masters that is the
embodiment of the card Dragon's Breath. Let's take a
look at Magma Dragon Melgars.
Name: Magma Dragon Melgars
Civilization: Fire
Type:
Creature
Race: Armored Dragon
Level: 8
Power: 11000
Flavor Text:
"I hate to admit it but we can't stop that
dragon alone." -Bob
Rarity:
Very Rare
Set Number:
52/110 l 7CLA
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Lava Breath-Whenever
this creature attacks, banish target enemy creature
that has power 3000 or less, then banish target
enemy creature that has power 2000 or less, then
banish target enemy creature that has power 1000 or
less.
Melgars in himself is a
powerful Armored Dragon with a massive 11000 power
all for just 8 mana! Let's not forget that he has a
built in Dragon's Breath ability every time he
attacks! These reasons alone should be reasons that
people should be flocking all around this card and
using it in their Dragon decks and whatnot, however,
he rarely sees any play...
Often it depends on what type
of deck you're playing against. If you're playing
against a bunch of big creatures then his effect
will likely mean nothing but if you're playing
against a aggressive strategy this card could be key
to your victory. I know from personal experience
that this card can be pretty scary to stare down
when you're running a deck that focuses on weaker
creatures with great abilities like Slayers. This
card and Infernus the Awakened can singlehandedly
disrupt your strategy if they're not swiftly dealt
with.
The end result though is that
there is a better alternative to playing this card
in the form of Infernus the Awakened. For just one
more mana you gain 2000 power, an additional shield
break, and a banishing effect upon summon and when
attacking with a slightly larger range in terms of
power. This card definitely has some potential and
can easily wreck some players days especially when
it hits the battle zone through Herald of Infernus
or when you have a Steamtank Kryon or Hyperspeed
Dragon out. If you're looking for another big dragon
to play with alongside Infernus then this card might
just work for you.
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.25/5.00 (A great alternative in a well-constructed
Dragon deck but it is often in the shadow of his
much bigger and better drowsy brother.)
Limited:
2.00/5.00 (I wouldn't expect this to hit the
board in most cases for limited play. If you can get
it out you should be in an amazing position or
you're already about to lose due to the time spent
building up your resources and defenses.)
