Welcome back everyone to
Pojo.com's Card of the Day! We have a very special
card for you all this week so make sure to stay
tuned for a Shattered Alliances exclusive! To get
things started for the week, let's take a look at
one of the promos from the set premiere of Clash of
the Duel Masters, Fault-Line Dragon.
Name: Fault-Line Dragon
Civilization: Fire/Nature
Type:
Creature
Race: Armored Dragon/Earthstrike Dragon
Level: 6
Power: 5000
Flavor Text:
"Life is an endless cycle: destruction prompts
rebirth."
Rarity:
Promo
Set Number:
P3 l Y2PRM
Abilities:
(This card enters your mana zone tapped.)
Sword of Outrage-This creature can attack tapped
creatures on the turn it enters the battle zone.
Sword of
Reaping-Whenever this creature wins a battle,
you may put the top card of your deck into your mana
zone.
Fault-Line Dragon is a mixed
version of two cards: Tatsurion and Razorhide. When
it enters the battle zone you're able to attack
tapped creatures, think of it like "Mediocre Attack"
as opposed to Fast Attack! Then when it wins a
battle you have the option of charging a mana from
the top of your deck.
For a Fire/Nature combo I would
have liked this card to have a little more power to
back up its effect. 5000 power doesn't get you as
far as you would like to when your goal is to take
down your opponent's creatures. The mana charge
ability is nice but by turn six or seven when you're
using it, it just loses its luster. If this cost
four or maybe even five mana it may have made a
little more sense... but I guess they need to be
able to keep good ol' regular Tatsurion around.
In an aggressive deck that
punishes players for attacking with smaller
creatures, this card puts in a ton of work. However,
when you're dealing with most of the other decks out
there, there just tends to be creatures with 6000 or
higher power that can easily dispose of Line Dragon
but hey... it's not his
fault! The other issue is that "Blind Ramp" cards don't give you
control of what you charge to your mana zone. They
are easier to achieve, however, you end up charging
your Infernus or Root Trap that you needed then
you're up a boat without a proverbial paddle. Until
we get a card that allows us to manipulate the mana
zone, this card won't be on the top of everyone's
list.
Ratings:
Constructed: 2.75/5.00 (A decent card but I think I would rather
stick with Tatsurion. He's able to trade off with
Lyra and other commonly played cards.)
Limited:
4.25/5.00 (The only way this could even be
played in a limited format would be the set premier.
In that situation, this is a great card that can get
you to your bigger dragons quicker and take down
your opponent's smaller creatures with ease.)
