It's Wednesday and that
generally means that we get a free preview card(s)
from Wizards of the Coast at Kaijudo.com! Be sure to
stop by there and see what Clash of the Duel Masters
has in store for you! As for today, we continue with
even more cards that have been seeing play in
tournaments and decks all around. Today we're
covering Death Smoke.
Name: Death Smoke
Civilization: Darkness
Type:
Spell
Race: N/A
Level: 5
Power: N/A
Flavor Text:
The cloud flowed over the land, choking
everything in its path.
Rarity:
Uncommon
Set Number:
72/165 l
3RIS
Abilities:
Banish target untapped enemy creature.
Again another pretty
straightforward card. This card banishes a creature
that is untapped and with the release of
DragonStrike Infernus, you will see more untapped
creatures in play.
Prior to the release of Evo
Fury, this card and Razorkinder were quite the
popular choice to run if you used removal cards from
the Darkness Civilization. Once Evo Fury was
released they started to see less and less play due
to all of the Evolution creatures running around, as
they often attacked right away and in the process,
tapping themselves.
Now that we're in a slower
environment (generally speaking), we have more time
to work up to our combos and keep creatures in the
battle zone a little bit longer, making it the
perfect time for Death Smoke to make its return!
This is the closest thing we
have in the Darkness Civilization to Terror Pit
outside of Devouring Smog. It is a welcome addition
to the line up and will usually see one or two
copies in a deck. This is the perfect follow up for
"Blurple" decks when your opponent drops that
infuriating Infernus the Awakened and can make your
deck bounce right back to where it was moments
prior. Expect to see this card at your local
tournament scene and KMCs... well, until we get
something better to use in Clash of the Duel Masters
;).
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.75/5.00 (There are still plenty of evolution
creatures running around but that shouldn't turn you
away from using this card. Infernus and Andromeda
should be enough of a reason to run this card.)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (Limited format in 3RIS means that there are
going to be some big creatures and there are
absolutely no evolutions! This card is a solid
pick!)
Make sure to stop by again
tomorrow as we continue our tournament level
reviews. Until
next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm
and game on!
