DRY 1337

As we’ve watched this great game evolve, we’ve seen some intriguing methods for bolstering the Dragonoid threat.  Dragonoids are cheap, abundant, and have the ability to evolve and grow stronger.  Now we get to take a look at Furious Onslaught, which complements the Dragonoid race by adding a finisher.

Furious Onslaught

Cost: 4

Civilization: Fire

Type: Spell

Rules Text:

  • Until the end of the turn, each of your Dragonoids in the battle zone is an Armored Dragon in addition to its other races, gets +4000 power, and has "Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields)."

The one great thing about Dragonoids is their low mana cost, which allows you to swarm and break shields quickly.  The only problem is that unless your opponent is destroyed within a couple of rounds, the strategy tends to run out of gas.  This is why a card like Furious Onslaught is so critical.  By boosting all Dragonoids by 4000 and giving them double breaker, these formerly weak and unsightly little critters will get the boost they need to clear a path to victory.  Even a creature like Pyrofighter Magnus can turn into a Twin-Cannon Skyterror!  Let’s also not forget the fact that all Dragonoids become Armored Dragons, which can be combined with the wide range of dragon support.  My favorite combo is combining this effect with Super Dragon Machine Dolzark and removing my opponent’s creatures (while double breaking shields).

I’ll also add that the cost is fairly decent for such an effective finisher, although I feel that it would be a lot more competitive if it was priced even less.  The reason is because it’s cumbersome in a rush/swarm strategy to have to pay 4 mana and not be able to play any creatures.  I guess we’ll just need to keep in mind that this card is indeed a finisher and should be the last card played before the end of a duel.

The Good:  An exciting finisher for Dragonoid duelists.

The Bad:  Dragonoids are not very popular with the exception of a few.

The Ugly:  Hit a Holy Awe and it’s over.

Constructed Rating: 4/5 – This is a fantastic finisher.  The only issue that I have is the fact that Dragonoids are not necessarily the most desirable race and that’s partly due to their slightly ineffective evolution creature.  However I highly recommend giving this spell a shot.

Limited Rating: 1.5/5 – If you can manage to get some Dragonoids then good.  Otherwise it’s pretty much going to end up in the mana zone.

Death Phoenix Furious Onslaught
By Death Phoenix

Let’s start off by looking at this card:

Name: Furious Onslaught
Cost: 4
Civilization: Fire
Type: Spell
Rules Text:
Until the end of the turn, each of your Dragonoids in the battle zone is an Armored Dragon in addition to its other races, gets +4000 power, and has "Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields)."
Flavor Text:
"See what happens when you take your vitamins?" -Pyrofighter Magnus
Mana Number: 1
Artist: Norikatsu Miyoshi
Rarity: R
Collector Number: 37
Set: Epic Dragons of Hyperchaos

The one thing I noticed when I searched WotC databases is that the Dragonoids are cheap creatures. You can summon them for a cheap cost, which is good for this card (especially since it probably can’t be used with many other creature types ;-)).

With this card, you can power up your Dragonoids and swoop in for a potential game finisher. This card is game finishing when played right.

Finishing if played right, but the only concern I have with this card is if it hits a Shield Trigger. Once that happens, it can all be over. This would mean that you would want to execute your strategy fast, or the furnace could be to hot to handle after that.

This card is about playing it at the right time. There will most definitely be some luck with your opponent, whether you play it at the right time or wrong time. If you hit, say, either a Tornado Flame or Holy Awe, you could be potentially finished.

I give this card . . .
3.5/5 – the only reason why it isn’t five out of five is because the fact that
1) Dragonoids aren’t widely used.
2) You hit something, your strategy goes up in flames.
