Return to Pojo's Dragonball - Interviews

Q: CVG Net seems to go down quite often. When CVG is down, so are you. What are some of the reasons that CVG has been going down? Also, do you view the downtime as a much-needed getaway from the site?

A: Well I have been on CVG Net for 8 months as of now and we have only been down twice. The first time we went down because there was any error on the server and the 2nd time was because of bandwidth problems. Now the 2 times we have been down, yes I found this to be a great getaway from the site, even though I did want to get back up as soon as possible.

Q: A lot of quality sites can be located at CVG. Some of the one's that come into mind are your site and CMDBZ. Then Castor made his move over to CVG and the server just got better. What does CVG have to offer that is attracting/keeping all of these quality sites on their server?

A: Well honestly all of the sites hosted by CVG Net are all friends with each other on the inside. I was the first to be hosted by CVG Net because I was friends with SegaSaga and then cmDBZ was hosted for the same reason as well. More into our hosting I recommended to Sega that he should check out other sites such as Ginga GIRI GIRI!!! and DB Japan because they were good friends of mine and I knew they needed hosting. Now CVG Net may be down sometimes, but the reason all of us stay is because they offer good hosting and it is good to work with one person (especially one person that you know) instead of some company.

Q: I know that you have had past website experience. Why don't you go ahead and tell us about your past experience.

A: Well Andy as you may know since you were along on the ride with me, I started web sites around 3 years ago in the summer of 1998. I started going around to web sites like your old Dragonball one and then I would say to myself "Geez I really want to get into that kind of stuff." Now at first I just stole images and movies and this and that and I was horrible at making layouts and so on. Then I started talking to you a lot and I asked you if you wanted to start a site. You said sure and I then tracked down someone who goes by the name of Tapion and we started something big. From you 2 I learned the pride that goes into work and how I should do everything for myself and not steal. We started a site called DB Daizenshyu (www.dbcollection.com) and within a month I was kicked out. No hard feelings about that because at the time I didn't have what it took to make a good site. Around 2 months later of my departure I started working on The Dragonball Vortex with my friend Saulo who I go to school with. We were up and down on different hosts (one including your web master buddy, Douglas) and it just didn't work out, so I decided to go solo. I worked on my site for a long time and saved money to purchase a video capture card and 4 of the Dragonball Daizenshuu and soon enough I was up and running on CVG Net with the fantastic site I have now.

Q: You have been working on DB sites for as long as I have. Now, I have my own opinions as to whether or not I still enjoy it, but I want to know about you. Do you still enjoy working on your site or has it turned into a hassle?

A: Well I do enjoy getting the e-mails from fans telling me how great the site is, but at other times you just want to strangle some of the people. Just yesterday I unblocked my AOL instant messenger and I got many messages. Now the messages I did not mind because I like to interact with the fans but half of the messages were people asking me if they could work on the site or if I could make them a layout, and I said NO right away and then I was harassed by them asking me why and then they were swearing at me so much I had to block my name again. This makes me wonder why I do this and makes me wonder if I should blast them on my site and get people to harass them, but I don't because I am not a jerk like that. All and all I still love doing my site; I like getting the pride I get out of my images or movies.

Q: I see that you have started your own IRC server. Do you think that your server will gain the popularity that namek's server had before it went down? Also, is part of the reason you started the server because Planet Namek's server went down?

A: Well namek was killed when people on the server started a war with another server. Soon after that someone who I am not to fond with started his own server and I would have nothing to do with it. Friends of mine felt the same way so I told them I would start my own server. I soon did with the help of my good friend who is a genius Professor. The server can be reached at irc.optimumirc.net (SPAM!) and all of my good friends are there chatting away every day. I take the server very serious and I try to offer chat rooms/channels to sites that don't have that opportunity. The web address is www.optimumirc.net if interested.

Q: Over the past year or so a good amount of sites have closed down. What are your opinions on all of these closings and how do they affect the DB Internet world?

A: I feel really bad about this, because some of the sites that closed were very good friends of mine and I have known them for a long time. It makes me sad and glad that they have left their sites behind because they do have to move on. But like I said it's sad to see them go and it's also sad when some of them say they want to end it because of people who just don't appreciate them anymore and that is true, many fans can be harsh at times.

Q: Do you see your site closing down anytime soon?

A: Not at all. I feel that I will be sticking around for a long long time. And when the times does come for me to leave, I will make sure my site stays up for fans to view it.

Q: As with a good majority of us, you used to be a page pirate when you first started out. Before I went over to DBD I was also a page pirate. A year back or so it seemed that cracking down on page pirates was a highly publicized and practiced pastime. As of late, though, no one really cares as much about cracking down on the pirates. What are your comments on what I just said? If you agree with me, what do you think some of the reasons for putting page pirates on the back burner?

A: Well at first I didn't think it was a big deal, but now I hate page pirates. I keep a very close eye on my site and I see when people steal my images and movies. I get much e-mail about this and it makes me sick. Do your own damn work for hours and hours and then get your own damn pride.

Q: Do you have any new projects coming up in the future that you can fill us in on?

A: At this time the only project I am working on is getting a job. As of anything else no I am not working on anything.

Q: With the Daizenshyu books going out of print for a while, I am left debating whether or not to re buy the collection that I have already sold. Now, I know that you are a fellow Daizenshyu collector, is your collection complete? Also, how often do you actually use the Daizenshyu's, whether to add content to your site or even just to look at them?

A: I haven't looked at my Daizenshuu for around 2 months now. They are in my room collecting dust. I have overlooked all 4 of them (1-4) and I cannot do anything else with them until I learn how to translate or I get in the mood to start scanning again. I would like to make my collection complete sometime but I need a job first for some mula.

Q: Well, we are going to change it up now and find out about your favorites from DBZ. So, to start it off, who is your favorite character and why?

A: My favorite DBZ character is very hard to decide. I think about this a lot and I would have to say it is Vegeta. He is very persistent even though he is kind of crazy and does not listen to anyone. But if you have seen all of DBZ and DBGT you see those small moments that let you see how he really is. One of my favorite parts in all of DB/Z/GT is when Vegeta sacrifices himself to Majin Buu and gives Trunks a hug right before he dies. I also think about how I would have liked to see Vegeta finish off GT and be the hero, but I knew that would never have happened.

Q: What is your favorite song from the series and which of the three series has the best music?

A: I have seen most of all 3 series and my favorite song has to be Spirit vs. Spirit, which is played when Gohan goes Super Saiya Jin 2 in the fight against Cell. Dragonball Z most definitely has the best music, but GT and the original DB are very close behind.

Q: After looking at all three series, which saga do you feel was the worst and was really not needed? Why?

A: I dislike the beginning or Dragonball GT Very much as do most. I just could not sit in my seat and watch it. Not much action and the story was horrible.

Q: Well, here we are, at the final question. Is it dragonball related? Well, no, but it is a question that must be asked. Looking into the future, what do you think Mike and Meri's baby is going to look like? Try not to gross us out too much with your answer.

A: Well first off, Andy you are still the same weirdo as you were 3 years ago. I am kind of friends with the 2 and I talk to them every so often and to evaluate on that all I can say about the baby would be GOD HELP US ALL!! Heh just joking.

Andy: Well, that's it, I hope you enjoyed the interview because I know I did. It was a lot of fun and I am glad that you could do it.

Steve: Andy you are a great interviewer and it has been great doing this. All I want to do is say sorry to you and everyone else that has to deal with my horrible grammar. Bye Bye.
