Interview with Kara Edwards
Voice of Goten, Gotenks & Videl

Kara Edwards Interview
By: Dave

Kara Edwards does the voices for the US Goten, Gotenks, and Videl, and I have had the privilege of being able to interview her.

Q- How did you start your career as a voice actress, and how did you get your job as a DBZ voice actress?
A- I have been in radio for many years- and an agent heard my voice on the air and suggested I start voicing commercials. I lucked out one day when I went to an open call audition for a cartoon called DragonBall Z. The rest, as they say, is history!

Q- How is your relationship with the rest of the DBZ cast?
A- I think they stink- JUST KIDDING!!! I love everyone I've met. Unfortunately- I live half a country away from everyone else- so I only see them when I record.

Q- Did you watch DBZ before you started doing voices for them, and were you an anime fan?
A- I had never seen the show before my audition. I was actually very surprised the first time I saw Videl...some say we look alike. I often get asked if I got the part for that reason. Fortunately, though I didn't look like Goten…

Q- What is your favorite anime, and why?
A- Hmmm...I don't get to watch much anime- so it must be DBZ! Oh- I really like Yu Yu Hakusho!

Q- Who is your favorite anime or DBZ character? Why?
A- Piccolo. I love his voice!

Q- Do you have any interesting hobbies?
A- I have so many hobbies! I recently got a motorcycle- so that's my latest love. I love to hike, I'm into photography- and I LOVE walking my new dog! I also work as a producer for a morning radio show in Charlotte, NC- and sometimes that feels like a hobby! (If you ever get bored check out www.star1047.com Click on Sander Walker- I'm in charge of our show's page)

Q- What other shows have you done any voice acting on?
A-Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball

Q- Your website is good, how long have you been doing it, and who helps you with it?
A- My boyfriend, Ryan gets all the credit. Unfortunately- my new job keeps me so busy I almost never update my site. I hope to change that soon- I want to add so much to it.

Q- What is it like when you (The DBZ voice cast) are doing the voices for the episodes (Like what is the overall mood, what thoughts go through your head, does anyone get nervous and do something stupid, etc)?
A- It's very laid back and fun. We can mess up and no one feels bad. Although Chris Sabat can be very difficult- I'm just kidding he's one of my favorites!

Q- I’d like to thank you for your time, and appreciate this. Is there any shout outs that you want to make, or anything you want to say to anybody or the fans?
A- First off- thank you to everyone for their patience. Since I moved to NC-I have been very slow to respond to e-mails and to update my site- and yet no one gets angry! I love reading the letters from fans- and I try to get back to everyone as soon as I can! You all ROCK! Also hi to everyone back at Funimation- I miss you all!!!! Thanks for letting me gab for a while!
