Review of episode 418: "The Trouble with Snubbull"

Summary for: "The Trouble with Snubbull"

By: Steven Reich

Episode Title Origin: The Trouble with Tribbles, an episode of Star Trek the
writers must really like, because it's also the origin for the episode "The
Problem with Paras." Come on, folks, let's be original. How about "A Muk
 Time" or "Mime Squared."

Teaser:
Our heroes are resting by a river, when Ash spots the rich madam's Snubbull
(in case you didn't notice, recurring characters are a theme in Season 4, as
everyone from Duplica to Mewtwo show up again).

Pokémon! Pokémon! Pokémon! Let's do it! (Love that song!)

Anyway, Team Rocket spots Snubbull and decides to "tail" it (much to Meowth's
dismay). Meowth spouts out that he hates Snubbull, provoking a strong
emotional shock in the pink Poké, who is then thrown far into the forest.
Meanwhile, Ash, Brock, and run into the madam and her butler, who explain
that they are searching for Snubbull, who ran away after they let it play.
The madam also displays her newfound strength. In any event, Team Rocket
hatches a plan to catch the Snubbull and take it in for a reward (more like a
ransom). This, however, puts Meowth at considerable risk.

Snubbull shows up, but instead of latching onto Meowth, it evolves into
Granbull. Meowth has planned for this, and activates yet another in a series
of Team Rocket Robots (if I had a dollar for every one of their robots, I'd
be able to buy a real robot). In any event, Granbull latches onto the robot's
tail just as our heroes show up. Team Rocket tries to prove that their
motives are sincere, but a series of mistakes makes it quickly appear that
they are nothing new. Thus, the requisite battle and Pika-beatdown ensue.

With newfound strength, both trainer and Pokémon continue into a brave new
world. Oh, and our heroes continue toward the next gym.

Who's that Pokémon: Hitmonlee

Moral of the Episode: Love bites.

Analysis: Not bad, but seeing the madam flex her muscles will probably give
me nightmares. Of course, that's a nice break from the Pokémon character I
usually have nightmares about.
