PHIL MONDIELLO - STATEN ISLAND, NY - 16
Ranked #1 GLOBALLY!!! (4-15-01)

Ness: How did you get into this game?
Phil: Well, I played the video game first, which basically lead me into card games all together.

Ness: What do you like about it?
Phil: I like strategy and games that involve intense thinking. Thats what makes Pokemon my favorite.

Ness: What don't you like about it?
Phil: COIN FLIPS. Coin Flips are the downfall of this game.

Ness: What's your favorite deck to play?
Phil: Haymaker. The win pretty quick and there hard to beat.

Ness: What do you think is the strongest deck in the current environment?
Phil: Haymaker no doubt. Slowking is decent, but Haymaker doesn't have to rely on trainers to win.

Ness: What deck do you hate to play against?
Phil: Anything that has 4 Chaos Gyms in it. They are mad annoying.

Ness: What would your "Top 10 Best Pokémon" list look like?
Phil: #1-Electabuzz
    #2-Cleffa
    #3-Ditto
    #4-Slowking
    #5-Hitmonchan
    #6-Sneasel
    #7-RZapdos
    #8-Murkow
    #9-Hitmonchan
    #10-Wigglytuff

Ness: Top 5 trainers?
Phil: #1-Professor Oak
    #2-Computer Search
    #3-Item Finder
    #4-Chaos Gym
    #5-Super Energy Removal

Ness: Where do you usually play?
Phil: Usually Alternate Realm, but sometimes I go to Neutral Ground, The Battleground. I also play in my own venue The Outer Limits.

Ness: Who is your most difficult competition?
Phil: Well, out of every player I've ever played I'd have to say Jason Imperiale is my toughest. He's exceedingly good.

Ness: What do you win at tournaments?
Phil: Usually 5 packs. Nothing special.

Ness: What are some of your most thrilling victories?
Phil: I really don't have thrilling victories. Just fast ones. LOL.

Ness: And your most devastating losses?
Phil: I lost to my friend Steve (Currently 7 Globally) really bad at the Battleground when he double Trapped me and he just beat me down with Wigglytuff.

Ness: Did you compete in the TMB, STS, or any other large-scale tournaments? If you did, how'd ya do?
Phil: I competed in the STS, but I didn't do well because my friend Steve made our team a HORRIBLE deck that day. The reason I didn't do worse was because I outplayed the grossness of the deck. Thanx Steve ;-). (62nd Place 11-14 Division)

Ness: If you had to ban one card, what would you ban?
Phil: Chaos Gym. No questions asked. Its the most broken card in this kind of environment.

Ness: What deck do you think is the funnest to play?
Phil: Miraculous Comeback deck. Its with Meowth ;-)

Ness: What do you think of Wizard's ideas of No 15+ qualifiers, Prop 15, etc.?
Phil: I think No 15+ Qualifiers is gross and very mean to the older Pokemon players, they deserve it just as most as the younger kids if not more. I also think they should just leave Pokemon the way it is, and don't make worthless formats like P-15.

Ness: What does it mean to be ranked as one of the best Pokémon players in the world?
Phil: Its pretty cool. I mostly play DCI Sanctioned for the Mega Battle. I really want to go. Plus its cool to brag to Magic Players that I'm #1.

Ness: Do your friends/schoolmates know you play Pokémon? Does it give ya a good/bad reputation?
Phil: I would NEVER tell anyone in my school I played Pokemon. I mean this is a great game, but I don't think the girls would go near me if they knew I played this game ;-/

Ness: If you could have 100 Smeargles or 100 Japanese Woopers, which would you rather have? =/

Phil: I dunno...LOL probably the Woopers.

Ness: Who do you believe is the best Pokémon TCG player in the world?
Phil: Jason Imperiale. He is definitely the most accomplished Pokemon player in the world. Top 4 at the STS, went to the Mega Battle, and he was #2 in the world for so long.

Ness: Any non-Poké hobbies?
Phil: Magic and (rest was censored by Ness.)

(Ness) Phil, how the heck could ya put Electabuzz as number one still. =/
Thanks for the interview Phillip!
