#10 Record of Lodoss War- Record of Lodoss War is probably the definitive high fantasy anime. It rings true with gamers (pen and paper) because it is actually based upon the creator's role-playing game adventures. Has great characters that are enjoyed by all (ok, most). #9 Patlabor- Patlabor is one of the greatest police anime stories ever. The characters are funny, and most grow. The stories are action-packed and fairly realistic, for giant robot / near future stories. The fairly episodic nature is a problem for me, though. The way the humor is used in the story is not overbearing while you watch, but it stays with you after you see it. #8 ANYTHING by Studio Ghibli- Undeniably some of the greatest children's movies on Earth. Sweet, heartwarming stories. Beautiful visuals. Keep in mind these are general statements, applying to KiKi and Laputa. Their nature VS. mechanistic world stories are very good, and gorgeous, but not for kids. #7 Mobile Suit Gundam (all series, in general)- Gundam is a geek's dream. Giant robots ::drool::. It was the first realistic war story involving giant robots, portraying people VS. people, not good VS. evil, or humans VS. aliens. It's still one of the best. Keep in mind that I said all series, in general. G Gundam-not going there. Some series are better than others, ex. Char's Counterattack is better than 0080. You could do an entire top ten Gundam list. Great mechanical designs and toys a plus, too. #6Magic Knight Rayearth- My favorite magical girl story. The continuing story is great, beating the monster of the week, episodic nature of Sailor Moon. The Rune Gods are awesome looking, in the full of awe sense. The magical girl team virtues are great, if unoriginal. The low dependency on stock footage is good. The drawing is CLAMP's great ultra-beautiful style. Plot twists are great. #5 The Slayers- My personal FAVORITE show, but not the best in my opinion. Freakin' hilarious. Gotta love the characters. First season is a little weak though. NEXT to TRY, however, is probably the best improvement between two seasons of a series, even beating SMR to SMS. The kooky world and events are unbelievable, literally. #4 Tenchi- One of the greatest comedic series ever, while retaining good, but not great action. Gotta love love polygons! And he picks the RIGHT girl in the end, even! I love the manga especially, with it's self-satirical nature. "I remember something like this happening in episode nine of the OAV series," (said by Washuu) LOL! Great art, to boot. #3 Ranma 1/2- As one website once said, "Picking between [Tenchi and Ranma] is like picking a favorite child." However, Ranma is just a little zanier, the love polygon is just a little (OK, way) more complex, and the action is just plain NUTS! Extra points for length and sensical continuity, too. #2 Neon Genesis Evangelion- Beautiful art, at least until Gainax ran out of cash, LOL. The dark plot is great, but I won't spoil it. I could talk about it's coolness for a loooooong time, but it would spoil it. Blargh. The characters and their interactions are among the best ever. Except for maybe Shinji. Whiny so-and-such! #1 Revolutionary Girl Utena- I always mentioned the visuals on these stories, but on this one I have to bring up the music. Most episodes have some original music. The mix of rock and classical is strange, but very effective. I salute you, J.A. Seazer! The gender-roles story is strange, but great. The characters are great, three dimensional ones (in terms of personality, not drawing). The stunning, albeit confusing conclusion allows the viewer to decide what happens, as does most of the story. The movie's insane avant-garde-ness is great, too. Like I said, the #1 greatest anime. By: Quanaco@aol.com Copyright - Pojo's Anime All rights reserved
