Pojo's Anime: Witch Hunter Robin Intro

Witch Hunter Robin arrived on US shores in October of 2003 with the first 5 episodes on DVD from Bandai (reviewed by yours truly). The series itself is from the legendary Sunrise and Bandai team responsible for fan-favorites Cowboy Bebop and Gundam in all of its forms. So it’s no surprise that Witch Hunter Robin (abbreviated WHR) is on the same level of anime goodness found in the aforementioned series.

Airing in Japan during the late summer-winter season of 2002, the series ran for 26 episodes, the standard for anime at the moment. The following year, it was brought to the US in October, and released over 6 DVDs. In February of 2004, it was finally brought to American television on the late-night Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network.

A unique acquisition for the network, the series features dark, moody tones and gothic styling. Some may like this aspect and it may turn others off. The locations are made in CGI while the animated characters move fluidly across the scene.

The anime itself is about an organization based in Japan called the STN-J, a branch of the global witch-hunting network, Solomon. Their job is to hunt down unruly witches and keep an eye on Seeds (people with dormant witch powers). It all seems normal until a new recruit is brought to the STN-J, a young witch with powers over flame, arrives to assist in the hunt…
