 Yugioh Tournament Reports

Union Tournament:

Kevin D. Dennis (Wolfpac ((my team)))

Phoenix Toolbox Deck

Tournament style: Advanced

Number Attendance: 13

Greetings to all Pojo readers, and all Yugioh players in the world. I hope this weeks dueling and writing finds you happy and winning, of course for every winner there must in turn be a loser. So for those of you who lost, shake hands with your opponent and tell them good game. That being said, before I begin my report I’d like to say something. What’s up people? I’ve noticed a serious fall off in the weekly tournament reports here on Pojo. The pojo staff is pretty good about getting these posted in a timely manner. So it leads me to the conclusion that not as many people are writing, and this bothers me. I’m as much to blame as anyone, so that’s why I’ve started writing again.

Normally on Saturdays I go to two tournaments, but Tangled Web was having their yearly Halloween sale and costume party. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, (apologies to Dennis and the gang.) So I cleaned up the apt. and helped a friend move, and then came on to Union.

The team arrived and I got my Ultra Call back from Lee. I was happy. Now time for the tournament. I play tested against Richard and lost to his, what I call modern Soul Control. That’s when I took out Different Dimension Capsule for Scapegoat. This was a no brainer.

Round 1:

Kevin D. vs Richard

Wow, what a surprise. We shuffled exchanged pleasantries and began to match.

I went first and placed one face down, Richard summoned Breaker the Magical warrior, and broke my face down Ceasefire, which I chained for no apparent reason, he then attacked for 1600. Next round he tributed Breaker for Thestalos the Firestrom and I lost D. D. Warrior Lady. He attacked my face down Apprentice Magician which I used to fetch Hand of Nephthys. Next turn I used Reinforcements to fetch Zombyra. Tributed both for Pheonix from my hand completely depleting my options, with Smashing ground. All I had left was a reinforments. Richard top decked Injection Fairy Lily, and Smacked my Phoenix. I held my Reinforcements and set a face down Robbin Goblin as a bluff. He summoned Spirit Reaper and Swung with both plucking my reinforcements from my hand. It was game on the next turn

LPTS:

Kevin : 8000,6400,6000,5000,1300,0

Richard: 8000, 7500, 5100, 3100, 1100.

Game 2:

Confiscation on the first hand and he used it to take total control of my hand and deck for the rest of the match. Nothing Special.

Kevin: 8000, 7700, 7300, 4900, 3700, 2500, 100, 0

Richard: 8000, 7000, 5200, 4600, 2900, 2600

Round 2:

Kevin D. vs Keenan

Keenan’s one of the few people who come to this tournament who isn’t a member of my team. He’s a young kid, and it shows.

To start off He set three face down S/t’s . I MTSed during the draw and hit a BoM. I normal summoned Don and attacked his lpts. He didn’t counter and I took Mr. Volcano from his hand. I scratched my head and said ok. Next turn he set a face down monster. I summoned LV 2 and attacked it. Then swung with Don and took the last card out of his hand. After that DDA and Don owned him.

Kevin D.:

8000

Keenan:

8000, 6600, 5200, 3500, 2100, 0

Game two he let me go first. I raise an eyebrow but went first and set a DDA face down. He set a face down as well, and two cards to back it up. Banking on no Torrential, and my ability to come back should something go wrong, I summoned Exiled, and used its effect on the face down Giant Rat. Then flip summoned DDA, and he BoMed it. I set COH and ended. He summoned Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei. And Swung on my DDA, I Rfged it. Next turn I summoned Breaker and broke his Judgement of Anubis, and swung. From there Breaker owned him with the Aide of GAF. Final move was COH on Exiled to destroy Giant Rat, Summon my lady for game.

Kevin D:

8000

Keenan:

8000, 6300, 4700, 3100, 800, 0

Round 3:

Josh Morris had taken our entry exam onto the team, but hasn’t passed yet. I know how good he is so I decided not to take him lightly. He’s running a rat control, so I knew ahead of time what I was running up against.

Game 1:

We each went the first two turns setting just face downs. He MSTed my Saku then flipped his Des Lacooda, and creatures swapped it to me, and I gave him Sangan. He tributed his face down Sangan for Mobius, but it hit nothing then he attacked Des Lacooda. I drew and played Brain control, took Mobius, sacked it and my Spirit Reaper for Phoenix. Then I attacked my Sangan, and seached out LV 2. He summoned Injection Fairy Lily and Swung taking himself down to 3000 and me 4300. I snatch stole his Lily, and Summoned DDS and game.

Game 2:

I debated Side decking, but considering how slow his deck appeared to be I didn’t. Judging form his look on his face I had done the right thing. He set a face down and played Different Dimension Capsule then ended. I RoAed for LV 2 and took out a Pyramid Turtle. I activated WMC and waited. Next turn he summoned his own LV 2 and used Rush Recklessly on it to kill mine. I thought a second and Summoned Cyber Dragon by card effect and killed his LV 2. Next he dark holed, but didn’t capitalize. I summoned DDS and attacked him down to 2500, the fired off my WMC to take him down to 500 believing he stashed his MST or Heavy in the Different Dimension Capsule. He then snatched my DDS and attacked me. Then he played messenger of peace. I drew Exiled. Snatched my own Survivor, summoned Exiled and attacked for game.

Round 4:

Kevin D. vs Daniel Brown, I designed Daneil’s deck and then he perfected. I knew what I was up against so I was thinking about what I should side ahead of time.

Game 1:

I used Confiscation twice thanks to magician of faith. I was able to take Swords and DDA from his hand. Then he smacked my Apprentice Magician and I searched out Hand of Nephthys. Next turn I tributed my MoF and Hand for Pheonix. I went to attack but he BoMed. I ended. Next turn he summoned Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier and attacked my Phoenix flipping it up, then creature swapped getting a Phoenix, and giving me a Spear Soldier. I summoned Exiled and Tributed to destroy my Phoenix. Then I attacked with Spear. Next turn Phoenix came back and it was ownage from there. He tried at one point to snatch my bird, but I BoMed him on my side of the field. Sorry Daniel.

I side decked Mobius, Drillroid, Dust and another LV 2.

First turn I LV 2ed his face down Gravekeeper’s Assailant. He played his and clashed the monsters chaining his face down Rite of spirt and his me hard. I then RoAed DDA and set a monster face down. He knew what it was so he passed. He drew another LV 2 and attacked my face down, Sangan. I got my search off and got Hand. Then I snatched his LV 2 and summoned Hand, Attacked for game. Phoenix rules.

Finals:

I lost to Jack, but we both came down to top deck. It was an awesome match.

Finals

Jack vs Jamie: I watched and typed on my laptop.

Game 1:

They shuffled and drew their opening hands. Jamie won the dice roll and opted to go first. Jamie opened by setting a monster. Jack started with Confi and dropped Jamie’s snatch followed by a RoA into a LV 2. Jamie uttered an explitive. He summons Cyber Dragon and uses LV 2 on a spy, and attacks with CD. Jamie set a s/t and summoned Newdoria to kill LV 2. Jack Heavy stormed , but Jamie responded with Rite of Spirit. Jack summoned Don, and Smacked Spy with Cyber Dragon, and Newdoria with Don, and dropped a Gravekeeper’s Guard. Jamie then killed Don with a Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier. Jack set a monster face down. Jamie did the same and ended. Jack Summoned and Exiled a Gravekeeper’s Spy. Jamie played Necrovalley, and trampled Jacks DDA and attacke with Mystic Tomato. He set one and ended. Jack RoAed into DD Warrior Lady. Jamie showed his face down to Daniel whose spectating. Jack set a card and ended. And then flipped his face down MoF, and messed up becase Necrovalley was on the field. Jamie Topdecked Terraforming into a Necrovalley. He played it, flipped Spy and Summoned Spear soldier giving him massive field presence. Tomato attacke Faith, Spy attacked Breaker, and Spear directly. 1600 to 5700 Jamie in the lead. Jamie Confied and killed Sangan. Spear Soldier ran into a BoM, and spy got removed by attacking DDA, and Jamie Heavyed and attacked for game. Both players side decked.

Game 2:

I saw Jack side a Susuke Samurai, and a Drillroid. Seemed like a good decision to me, and its what I would’ve done.

Jack opted to go first. Jamie showed his hand to Daniel, and Jamie called it a shame. Jamie opned with Confi after jack set one in each Zone, He dropped Jujitsu master, and played Necrovalley and set two face downs. Jack Msted Rite of Spirit, summoned Breaker and broke Magician Circle, and attacked with DDA and Breaker. Jamie Summoned Sper soldier and attacked into a Waboku. Jack Sacked Breaker with Enemy controller and took Spear soldier for game.

Game 3:

Neither player side decked any for game three. Jamie opeted to got first and opened with Confi and dropped Susuke Samurai from Jacks hand. Jamie then set one in each zone. Jack Special Summoned Cyber Dragon and normal summoned DDA. CD attacked spy and Jamie got another one. Jack passed, Jamie passed his net turn. He attacked Spy with CD and directly with DDA. Jack set one S/t and declared his end phase in which Jamie activated MST to destroy Dust Tornado. Then Jamie Snatched CD attacked DDA to remove both. Then he set one in each zone. Jamie passed to Jack who opened with Confi and dropped Jamie’s Dark Hole. Jamie flipped Sangan and attacked into a face down Morphing Jar. Jamie chained Magician’s Circle getting Injection Fairy Lily, and Jack gets Breaker. Jack sets a s/t. Jamie Summons Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier, which falls into Bottomless, Jamie swings with Injection for game.

So Jamie opens his packs and pulls two back to back Elemental Hero Bubbleman both normal rare. Jamie’s obviously disappointed and Daniel can see that. So he takes one of the Bubblemen and eats it. That’s right folks Daniel ate a Bubbleman.
