Dark and Metal Venomoth Hiya! It’s me Master 1080 again with another one of my articles. This time I will talk about Venomoth, a Pokemon that is rarely used. However, I use it to annoy the heck outta my opponents. Venomoth is a powerful and fun to play card if used correctly. I’m here to talk about how it can be somewhat powerful in today’s environment. All right now, let’s cut to the chase. To begin, Venomoth has 70 HP, Fighting resistance, and best of all, no retreat! It is like a status-effect causing Scyther. It has a Pokemon Power called “Shift” that let’s you change Venomoth’s type (does not weakness or resistance) to any type other than Colorless in PLAY. Its attack is called “Venom Powder” that does 10 damage (or more if you used “Shift”) which on the flip of heads causes the Defending Pokemon to become Confused and Poisoned! Strategies with Special Energy Cards: Since you can “Shift” to any type of Pokemon in play, you can now take advantage of the Metal and Darkness Energies. Either your opponent or yourself can have a Darkness or Metal type Pokemon you can “Shift” to. Once you have shifted to Dark or Metal, you may now play the corresponding Energy Card on to it without any side effects. With Darkness Energy you can add 10 damage per turn. I advise you to shift to Darkness first to ensure that the Darkness Energy does not do anything bad to Venomoth. But I know that you might be thinking, “Why not just ‘Shift’ to the type the opponent is weak against?” I know you still add 10 more damage that way and you don’t need the Darkness Energy. But think about it, if you have 2 Darkness Energy you can do 30 damage with a chance of Confusion and Poison. Also, you can deal an extra 10 damage to Pokemon with no weakness with the Darkness Energy attached. However, to do the 30 damage you will require a grand total of 2 Grass and 2 Darkness Energy, which leaves Venomoth Energy Removal and Gust of Wind bait (since it has a weakness of Fire). With Metal Energy you can decrease you opponent’s Attack damage by 10. It is important that you “Shift” Venomoth to Metal first otherwise you will inflict no damage at all due to the fact that Venomoth was no a Metal type to begin with. This will protect Venomoth from receiving a lot of damage, especially from Fire Pokemon. Strategies not requiring Darkness or Metal Energy: Since Venomoth can inflict some of the most damaging status-effects in the game, I suggest using a Stadium card with it. - The Rocket’s Training Gym will prevent your opponent from saving his/her Pokemon by retreating. - Chaos Gym, Slowking, and/or Dark Vileplume will prevent your opponent from using any Trainers to save their Pokemon. If they try to retreat, then used Dark Dugtrio to place 20 damage on the retreating Pokemon, with the flip of a coin of course. Or you can use Murkrow to lock the in place (this is good with Venomoth since Murkrow is the Pokemon that provides Venomoth the Darkness type to shift to). A simple strategy to use with Venomoth is with Meganium. Meganium’s Wild Growth Pokemon Power let’s all Grass Energy provide 2 Grass Energy for your Grass Pokemon. This means Venomoth may attack using only one Grass Energy Card! Weakness: Venomoth’s major weakness to my Special Energy Card strategy is Magby. It’s attack shuts down all Pokemon Powers for one turn, the effect of the attack ending on your opponent’s next turn. If Magby shuts down the “Shift” Pokemon Power, then Venomoth will become Grass type again and will no longer have the benefits of being Dark or Metal. Muk, Smeargle, and Goop Gas Attack are not too much of a threat since they are not as annoying as Magby. Plus, what makes Magby so strong against Venomoth is because it is a Fire type and stops all Powers for 2 turns, yours and theirs. Also, other status effects will shut down Venomoth’s Pokemon Power causing it to once again lose the benefits of being a Darkness or Metal type. Well there’s another one of my reports. This concludes it. My thanks to everyone who reads this and the people at Pojo who help post it.
