Hello once again everyone. Here is another edition of *trumpets sound*
-Overlooked-! Today we look at a few new Neo Discovery cards, as well as an
older card from one of the gym sets. Today we’ve got Lt. Surge’s Electabuzz
(60hp) Xatu (discovery) and Smeargle (discovery)

*Thanks to ~Dragon Rage for some tips on Xatu and Lt Surge’s Buzz.

Lt. Surge’s Electabuzz is first up.

Stats: Lightning type, 60hp, Basic Pokemon, weak to fighting, resists nothing, 2
retreat cost.
Attacks: L Charge -  Take up to 2 lightning energy cards from your discard
pile and attach them to Lt. Surge’s Electabuzz.
LL Electric Current -   (20) Remove 1 Lightning energy card attached to Lt
Surge’s Electabuzz and attach it to one of your benched pokemon. If you have no
bench, discard the energy.

First look at Electabuzz reveals that he isn’t as good as his base counterpart.
Taking a closer look however, we see that he has some very interesting attacks.
A first turn oak with energy in your hand allows the Lt’s Buzz to gather up
energy with Charge and attach it to himself. What does this do for you? Well it
lets you attack with Electric Current next turn without worrying about putting
energy on him. This in turn, lets you put your energy on a backup pokemon. Lt.
Surge’s Buzz’s next attack lets you put energy from him, onto another of your
pokemon. Instead of having to take a turn to use another pokemon’s setup attack,
you can launch their most powerful attack more quickly. Lt. Surge’s Buzz works
great in the early and in the late game phases. You can overwhelm your opponent
with 2-3 fully powered pokemon in the beginning, or you can re use all of your
lost energy by charging and then putting it on others with Electric Current. The
60hp is alright, 10 more would have really helped, also the retreat cost is 2
which makes him a 1 time use pokemon unless you scoop him up. He has some good
points to him, such as how he doesn’t lose many energy when ko’d, and he can
charge up your bench while you still attack. Overall I give Lt Surge’s
Electabuzz lv. 22, a 7/10.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Xatu, the combo king. (maybe prince..)

Stats:70hp, 1 retreat, psychic type, Stage 1 from Natu, weak to psychic, resists
fighting.
Attacks:  P Energy Cycle -   Flip a coin, if heads choose 1 energy card
attached to the defending pokemon and place that energy card on an opponents
benched pokemon.
   PPC- Super Psy -  (50)

The new Natu is actually pretty good, which gives Xatu a chance to thrive.
Xatu’s first attack is devastating with a heads flip. Take a dark energy off
their active Sneasel and attach it to their non-dark pokemon. They take 10
damage after every turn and will soon be knocked out. With successful heads
flips you can pile energy on someone who doesn’t need any. With Energy Cycle you
can also keep the opponents from attacking you while you set up for Super Psy,
which is a great 3-for-50 damage attack. Energy cycle also helps out some other
psychic pokemon. Take energy off of their smaller pokemon and attach it to their
big gun, then use someone such as Espeon or Mewtwo from base and use their
psychic attack. Psychic will do more damage for each energy card attached to
them, so you can try and throw as much energy on their better pokemon and knock
em down in just a few turns. That plan also works with Butterfree from discovery
who does more damage and removes damage from itself, depending on how much
energy is on the defender. Overall I give Xatu an 8.5/10 because of his decent
hp, and 2 solid attacks.

Last on the agenda for today is Smeargle.

Stats: 50hp, Basic Pokemon, Colorless type, 1 retreat cost, weak to fighting,
resists psychic.
Atttack: CC- Sketch -   If the defending pokemon attacked last turn, and
Smeargle was in play during that attack, Smeargle copies that attack except for
energy requirements and anything else required in order to do the attack.

Smeargle doesn’t have the best stats, 50 hp and a retreat. He does have a good
attack though. Metronome it isn’t, but Smeargle is a basic pokemon so you have
to expect a bit less from him. Having to have Smeargle in play during the attack
really stinks, there goes the element of surprise for you, but your opponent may
think twice about doing slash when he only has 30 hp left and you have someone
that will be Ko’d out there. I think Smeargle would work best with pokemon like
Lickitung or Brock’s Lickitung. Let Lickitung sit out in the active spot, and
try and do as much damage with tongue wrap as you can, when Lickitung is about
to go down the drain, you scoop him up for Smeargle and you can hopefully finish
off your opponents pokemon with the attack they used last turn. Brock’s
Lickitung can get damage on the defending pokemon faster, but he doesn’t have a
paralysis attack. If Smeargle had more hp he could be used for regular
countering attacks, but with 50 hp he can only be used as a finisher most
likely. For 2 colorless energy though, it’s a good thing. Smeargle is gust bait
and that’s a tough drawback too. Overall though, I give Smeargle a 5.5/10
