Hello, fellow Pokefreaks! I woke up this morning bored so I decided to make a list of the best rares and the worst rares of all time. Blah blah blah… I’ll get started now.

The Worst

These cards are rares and holofoils that shouldn’t have been made. This list includes Base set through Neo Discovery.

Honorable (dishonorable?) Mentions: Fossil Magneton, Charizard, Dark Charizard, Lugia, Pichu, and Togetic

10: Giovanni’s Pinsir- Unlike most cards in this list, his Hp isn’t terrible, but the attacks still are. Two energy for a chance at twenty damage? : p His other attack is weak, too. If it just said 40 damage, it would be about the same as Base set Hitmonchan, but nooooo… they had to put in damage to your pokemon. I like Pinsir too.

9:  Base set Magneton- HP stinks, especially for an evolution. Thunder Wave is okay, but since there’s nothing else good about him, he isn’t worth it.

8: Pidgeotto- Mirror Move is okay, and if he wasn’t a rare, he might not be so bad. Whirlwind stinks, because your opponent will send out something powerful or a free retreat pokemon. All in all, his biggest problem is HP.

7: Base set Clefairy- Metronome is too expensive, HP is bad, and Sing is awful. Worst of all, Clefable fans have a new Clefairy, which is easier to get and is more useful.

6: Fossil Kabutops- I kid you not, his attacks are quite useful. HP is his biggest problem, and Neo Discovery has solved his other problems, but the new Kabutops is 200 times better.

5: Smeargle- HP is terrible. Sketch is good, but with low HP, it is hard to take advantage of it.

4: Here Comes Team Rocket!-  It lets you see the prizes, but your opponent sees too so it doesn’t help at all. Quite valuable though, so trade it to a collector.

3: Arcade Game- What are the odds of this card working? Might make a good combo with Pokedex, though.

2: Mary- Some people might argue with me, but I don’t see the point in this card. I might be a little biased on this one though, I keep getting Marys in my Genesis booster packs.

1: Devolution Spray! - Yep, Devolution Spray. Its only uses are if you change your mind about evolving Eevee or Tyrouge, or to get a lower retreat cost. Hyper Devolution Spray does this and you keep the evolution card.

The Best

This is a best of all time list, so some of these cards have lost their game play value. These cards have powers that rocked the world of pokemon, or an attack that blew the competition out of the water.

Honorable Mentions: Venusaur and Rocket’s Zapdos (I wanted to include Rocket’s Zapdos, but didn’t have one to scan)

10: Mr. Mime- Small in appearance, he’s practically invincible with Alakazam on his side.

9: Cleffa-One of the newbies, Cleffa has earned its place by providing infinite Elms and dodging cards that stop you from using trainers.

8: Jungle Scyther- People will say he belongs higher, but he’s just a pokemon. Well, he’s just a pokemon that fits in any deck, has a nice attack, and runs away for free.

7: Slowking- Of all the cards that stop trainer cards from being played, Slowking is the one that won’t get in the way if you find yourself in need of a trainer. Get several into play and watch your opponent’s facial expression.

6: Base Set Electabuzz- If any pokemon should be called a classic, it’s Electabuzz. He’s the only pokemon card that is still popular and has been since base.

5: Wigglytuff- Another old goodie, Wigglytuff was the most popular card from Jungle through Genesis, when Sneasel was released.

4: Ditto and Clefable- The Copycat pokemon, these two take opponent’s attacks and stamp Return to Sender on them. I couldn’t decide, so I tied these two.

3: Sneasel- Ah, the smell of hate mail. Fans of Sneasel will say he should be the king, haters of Sneasel will say he doesn’t belong at all. I decided to put him here and give two pokemon that aren’t popular any more, but once ruled the game the top spots.

2: Blastoise- Lord of all that is wet, Rain Dance once devastated the game with speedy Blizzards, Dragon Rages, Water guns, or Blastoise’s own Hydro Pump.

1: Alakazam – The rules were destroyed by this card. Scoop Ups, Pokemon Centers, Chanseys, and Mr. Mimes teamed up for the second most defensive deck (The most defensive deck wasn’t very popular because it had no offense, could never win at tournaments and was destroyed by Energy Removal)
