Charity

Hiya.  It’s me Master 1080 again with another
strategy.  This one is about the card Charity.  I know
many of you know it is practically useless in the
trading card game but I’m here to tell about a few
weird situations in which this card maybe useful or at
least semi-useful.  This card lets you reduce the
amount of damage you deal to the defending Pokemon.
Also, it returns to your hand if the defending Pokemon
is not knocked out.  There’s not much else good about
the card but the nice picture of Erika.

1. Charity vs. Jungle Mr. Mime
Just reduce your damage to twenty damage then finish
it off the next turn.  Goop Gas Attack, Magby,
Igglybuff, Muk are better alternatives.

2. Charity vs. Rage
Use Charity to reduce the amount of damage you do to a
rage Pokemon, take Tauros for example, ensuring it
won’t harm you a lot.  Then finish it off the next
turn.

3. Charity vs. Gold Berry
Use Charity to reduce your damage to where the
defending Pokemon will have 30 damage on it.  Gold
Berry will not activate until the defending Pokemon
has at least 40 damage on it.  After that, knock out
the defending Pokemon on the next turn.  Sometimes
this won’t work if someone plays potion or another
healing trainer/energy since it gives their defending
Pokemon more remaining HP.  In some weird situations,
people will play Darkness or Rainbow Energy to
activate their own Gold Berry.

4. Charity + Poison
Poison is deadly if timed correctly.  The best
situation is when Poison knocks out the defending
Pokemon at the end of your opponent’s turn forcing
him/her to bring out a new active for you to beat up
on your turn.  Sometimes Poison doesn’t quite do that
because it may knock out the defending at the end of
your turn, letting your opponent bring out something
new to beat you up with.  There are only two ways to
fix the amount of damage you deal to benefit this
situation: reducing the amount of damage you deal
(Charity) or increasing the amount of damage you deal
(Pluspower/Darkness Energy).

5. Charity vs. Healing Trainers
Use Charity to reduce the amount of damage to where
your opponent will not use any healing trainer cards
on it.  Most people probably don’t want to waste a
Super Potion or Potion on a Pokemon with 10 damage on
it.  Surprise them later by dealing a lot of damage
very quickly, just barely knocking them out.  Your
opponent will regret not playing that healing trainer
card.  However, it is hard to predict when your
opponent does have a healing trainer or if he/she will
play it or not if he/she does have it.

6. Charity vs. No Energy Attached to Defending Pokemon
If an attack would knock out your opponent’s Pokemon
and you want to stall for one more turn, use Charity
to let your opponent’s defending Pokemon survive.
Make sure your opponent cannot do anything to you
because a well played Gust of Wind, Switch, Scoop Up,
etc. will absolutely ruin this.

This concludes my article.  I can’t think of any more
strange situations in which Charity would be useful.
Thanks for your time and to Pojo for posting this
article.
