Many anti-point system articles have been posted around this site, but they don't seem to be working effectively. I think it's because the people just say the point system is bad and not why it is bad. Here is why it is bad in one simple word. UNRELIABLE! If I wanted to, I could compare a Shellder to a Blastoise and Shellder would win if I did it right. You don't believe me? Here, I'll prove it.
NOTE: This comparison SUCKS. I'm just trying to get my point across.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. STAGE- Shellder is a basic pokemon Blastoise is a stage 2.
S B
1  0
2. Hp. Blastoise has 100 Shellder has 30. Blastoise wins.
S B
1  1
3. First attack- Hide In Shell prevents damage and Rain Dance puts down as many energy as you want. Blastoise wins
S B
1  2
4. Second Attack- 5 energy for 60 damage! That's terrible! Shellder wins(Notice no explanation on Shellder's attack not to mention Blastoise isn't used for attacking. Well, most of the time anyway)
S B
2  2
WEAKNESS-Same
S B
2  2
RESISTANCE-None
S B
2  2
RETREAT- Blastoise has 3 Shellder has 1. Shellder wins.
S B
3  2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice the lack of absolutely no explanation. Also I was comparing a basic pokemon to a stage 2. Not to mention I didn't mention there purposes. Who cares about Blastoise's attack? He's SUPPOSED to sit on the bench and pump up your pokemon not attack (He does sometimes though). Another thing that was done wrong was awarding 1 point. Blastoise won by 70Hp in the Hp category and got 1 point.
Another reason the point system sucks is because it's based on opinion. Somebody might say Special Punch is better than Thunder Punch because Special Punch is guaranteed 40 damage. Where as somebody else might say Thunder Punch is better because it costs less energy. Get my point?
