Double Trouble
by Scott Arko

Hey Pojo I recently entered a tournament and was struck dead by two deck archetypes that just spawned in my area and seems to be creeping around. I will explain one right now and one in another article. THe two are called "Double Trouble" and "The Denyer." I will be talking about "Double Trouble."

4 Clone
3 Avatar of Will
3 Avatar of Woe
2 Mahomatti Djinn
2 Nightmare

10 Swamp
11 Island

4 Counterspell
4 Dark Ritual
3 Coercion
3 Specter's Wail
4 Mind Peel
4 Recoil
3 Undermine

This is a deck that is very aggressive on the opponent's hand on the first few turns, trying to  empty it as quickly as possible. Then, a very quick Avatar can be played(Avatar of Woe because of countermagic and discard to drop creatures into the graveyards and Avatar of Will when your opponent has an empty hand)Following that can be a Clone to multiply the Avatars. Mahomatti and Nightmare can be used for a strong defense and/or beatdown.
The noncreature spells hone the strategy very well. Counterspell and Undermine provide defense, Recoil can help both the Avatars and be used on defense, and the Discard helps to send out the Avatars quickly. Dark Ritual just speeds the beatdown.

Sideboard

1 Mahomatti Djinn
3 Gulf Squid
1 Nightmare
3 Plaque Wind
3 Slinking Serpent
2 Seer's Vision
2 Millstone

The sideboard is harder to use than previous decks i submitted.
Mahomatti/Nightmare- against slow decks, take advantage of their slow speed by using huge slow creatures yourself
Gulf Squid/Millstone- I've found that these are perhaps the most useful cards for a non-control blue deck to sideboard in. Gulf Squid can come in and stop their counterspells by tapping their land, and Millstone can deck them out before they can deck you.
Slinking Serpent- Mainly used against green decks. I cannot imagine why.
Seer's Vision- Sometimes you will find that a deck contains a card that can ruin you, but is very expensive. Use this to torch that card before it can hurt you. Also used if more discard is needed.

Well, good luck!
