B/G Cleric deck by BMoor

When you think of Clerics, you probably think of white creatures, making an acknowledgement that some black Clerics do exist.  Well, if you look hard enough, you can find Clerics in every color.  So I decided to build a deck using black and *gasp* green Clerics.

Creatures: 25

3 Cabal Archon

2 Dark Supplicant

3 Doomed Necromancer

2 Fallen Cleric

3 Initiates of the Ebon Hand

2 Juniper Order Druid

3 Rotlung Reanimator

3 Sylvan Hierophant

3 Vile Deacon

1 Scion of Darkness

Other Spells: 16

2 Narcissism

4 Rancor

4 Unholy Strength

3 Profane Prayers

2 Might of Oaks

1 Vitalizing Wind

Lands: 19

3 Bayou

3 Tainted Wood

2 Starlit Sanctum

7 Swamp

4 Forest

The strategy of this deck is pretty simple: Get out as many Clerics as you can and go offensive.  Vile Deacon, Fallen Cleric, and the Scion are good heavy hitters, the Initiates can filter green mana into black if needed for a boarsweep of sacrifices by the Archon, and the Rotlung will generate replacements for any lost Clerics while the Necromancer and Hierophant bring them back.  Cabal Archon, Starlit Sanctum, and Profane Prayers all serve similar purposes; if your opponent locks down the battlefield, use your immobilized Clerics to drain life away directly.  Most of the green spells will help power up your creatures (Clerics aren't known for their muscle), while the recursion properties of Black keep your troops in good number.  And then there's the Scion/Supplicant combo, which is just too good for any black Cleric deck to pass up.  But don't write the Supplicant off as just a way to get the Scion on the board without paying his mana cost; he's got value of his own.  The win condition is to drive your opponent's life total to zero, either through constant attacking or direct life loss.

Now for those of you who would like a sideboard:

Misery Charm can increase your recursive power as well as your odds against another Cleric deck.

Disciple of Malice is another Cleric worth playing, his low casting cost, cycling, and protection from white make him perfect for a fast metagame.

Spidersilk Armor works great if your opponent tries to fly over, or if you just want that extra point of toughness.

Strength of Night is a great universal pump spell, and its kicker is perfect for Fallen Cleric and the Zombie tokens generated by Rotlung.

Elder Druid works a lot like Juniper Order, but has a lot more versatility for more mana and would be good if you find yourself needing more tapping abilities.

And spells like Syphon Soul can help the direct life loss, while keeping your life total up.  Remember, the Archon and Profane Prayers are currently your only means of restoring your life total.

And of course, any ideas you have would surely be more suited to your play style and metagame, and I would love to hear them.  Send any thoughts to bemore4096@yahoo.com, and they'll fall on highly receptive ears.
