#2 on my list is The planeshift Common: Artic Merfolk. 1U Kicker - return a creature you control to its owner's hand. if you paid the kicker cost artic merfolk comes into play with a +1/+1 counter on it. 1/1 Think about it this way: with the casting cost reducing familiars the kicker isn't that tough to manage. Maybe if you wanted you could go into T1 and go for a 0 mana cost creature! Ornithopter and Phyrexian Walker are great with this card. Also think about cards with good come into play abilities. like Vodalian Merchant. if you have a sunscape familiar out you are paying UU for a 2/2, 1/1 and a card. Some of the battle mages work good too. Maybe you could go all out and toss in a few Waterspout Elementals. it's a perpetual board clearer, i like that idea. The ability can also be used to protect a creature from a wrath of god. Gate the creature before it resolves and lose only the merfolk.
