As many of you may know, Reanimator is a deck that involves getting large creature from the graveyard into play. Since Oddessy came out, people have been experimenting with Reanimator variant in Extended, placing in top 8 at some of the events. So why not have some in Type 2? The main engine of the deck is Buried Alive and Entomb along with reanimating cards. Buried Alive Color: Black Casting Cost: 2B Card Type: Sorcery Card Text: Search your library for up to three creature cards and put them into your graveyard. Shuffle your library afterward. Entomb Color: Black Casting Cost: B Card Type: Instant Card Text: Search your library for a card and put it into your graveyard. Shuffle your library afterward. Both of the cards allow you to get creatures into your graveyard, so all you would need then is a way to get them into play. There are 6 cards in Type 2 that can get creatures from your graveyard into play. They are: Zombify, Death, Twilights Call, Breath of Life, Death or Glory, and Reya Dawnbringer. Death or Glory and Death are far inferior cards, and Twilights Call can help your opponent also, getting their creatures back from the graveyard. Reya is a creature also, so that would fit the deck very nicely, as after it is reanimated it will reanimate other creatures. Reya is a Legend though, so it wouldn't make sense to have more than two, but in this deck one would be fine. The deck is then left with an engine that would look like this: 3 Buried Alive 4 Entomb 4 Zombify 4 Breath of Life 1 Reya Dawnbringer All that remains then is a good set of creatures. Obviously, since the deck doesn't care about how much a creature costs you can get away with some very big creatures. Some good creatures to consider are: Vampiric Dragon, Penumbra Wurm, Iridescent Angel, Crosis the Purger, Darigaaz the Ignitor, and Spiritmonger. A good set of creatures might look like this. 1 Vampiric Dragon 1 Iridescent Angel 1 Crosis, the Purger 1 Darigaaz, the Ignitor 2 Spiritmonger 1 Penumbra Wurm You can very easily get away with single copies of creatures, due to the fact that you get them in the graveyard and then no longer have to worry about them, as they will come back eventually. The only problem is if they get stuck in your hand you might not be ale to cast them. This is not something to worry about in most cases though. So all together the deck would have this: 3 Buried Alive 4 Entomb 4 Zombify 4 Breath of Life 1 Reya Dawnbringer 1 Vampiric Dragon 1 Iridescent Angel 1 Crosis, the Purger 1 Darigaaz, the Ignitor 2 Spiritmonger 1 Penumbra Wurm That is 23 cards, leaving a total of 37 slots left in the deck. So the next step is to come up with a variety of support spells. The deck can already support black and white, but we should be able to use red also, as red mana is needed to abuse the Vampiric Dragon. So it can support white, black, and red. For a list of support spells you might try this. 4 Terminate 4 Duress 4 Gerrard's Verdict The Terminate can pick off certain creatures early on, allowing you to survie until the deck goes off, and the discard will help against control alot. All that is needed is land, so with the land the deck may look like this. 3 Buried Alive 4 Entomb 4 Zombify 4 Breath of Life 1 Reya Dawnbringer 1 Vampiric Dragon 1 Iridescent Angel 1 Crosis, the Purger 1 Darigaaz, the Ignitor 2 Spiritmonger 1 Penumbra Wurm 4 Terminate 4 Duress 4 Gerrard's Verdict 4 Urgborg Volcano 4 Sulfurous Springs 4 Caves of Koilos 4 Plains 9 Swamp That is what a type 2 Reanimator deck would look like as of right now.
