Coliseum of Comics
Orlando, Florida
February 24, 2003

Well Dad was really nice and drove me two hours to Orlando to go to the SBZ so first I give props to him. Two props, infact ;x. We got up at 4:45 and left at about 5:38. I slept the whole way and we got there just as the sun was coming up, around 7:38. We found Coliseum of Comics and it wasn't open yet so we ate at Denny's. Why am I bothering you with this stuff lets get back to the pokémon part: When we got back to the Coliseum, I met Renee and Doug and a couple of other tourneygoers waiting outside the store for opening time. I managed to get two EX Chikoritas and an EX Bayleef free from Tim Santo, I gave him some Horsea and Breeder Field to help his Kingdra deck. I also still had Time Capsules in my deck and needed some Town Volunteers. I managed to get one for a stack of commons and traded away my other time capsule for a Volunteers. Now I had finally completed the deck, which is as follows:

"wild Growth"

17 Pokémon
4 Chikorita EX(50HP)
2BayleefEX
1BayleefN1
2 MeganiumN1
2MeganiumEXH
1UnownM
1Tyrogue
4Cleffa

30 Trainers
4 Focus Band
4Double Gust
3Switch
2 Pokémon Breeder
2 Town Volunteers
1 Energy Stadium
1 Pokémon Trader
2 Pokémon Fan Club
3 Breeder Fields
4 Copycat
4 Elm

13 NRG(all of them reverse holo, why? Because it's pretty)
12 Grass
1 Recycle

The strategy was to get out all the meganiums and swarm them, with EX meg attacking and healing and N1 Meg doubling grass nrg and Unown M for the scizors I thought would be all over the place(turns out noone played any metal at all=/). For the most of my games, once I got out both types of meganium, if I didn't screw up, I'd win. And half the deck is trainers yes I know however it gives the deck incredible speed which is vital. Okay you are all probably tired of this babbling now lets get on to the matches right?
Round 1: Vs. Bob Hamblin He played a Dark Vaporeon/Houndoom deck. I rogued his AQhoundour right after it Feint attacked my banded damaged Rogue(and I flipped heads). He DG'ed a Chikorita with 1 NRG so he could get an Eeeeeeek in and next turn I Breedered the harmless looking Chiko into a fully powered N1Meganium and KO'ed Cleffa. He had benched an Eevee and had some babies out. I double gusted Eevee to KO, then he played a Mew, which I smash punched then chikorita'ed. From then on it was just baby KO's.
Record: 1-0-0
Round2: Vs. Dakota
He started out with Suicune and I got 2 Cleffa and a Chikorita and I also had a Bayleef in hand. After I evolved I Elmed, played rogue and did 30 to Suicune, then he ER2'ed my bayleef I was powering up, but thankfully it still had one nrg on it. I played another grass and KO'ed the suicune. He promoted rogue and kept smash punching. I powered the bayleef with 4 NRG and evolved it to EX Meganium, double gusted Horsea and KO. He failed an ER2 and kept getting heads for smash punch, I banded the meganium and benched it, but then he plays elekid, double gust and flips heads for the KO. Then I got out Neo1 Meganiun to KO Cleffa and he later powered up a AQ water type Kingdra to attack, but I put him to sleep and he kept using Pokémon Center and Gold Berry to heal, but he soon ran out of healing and I KO'ed that. I KO'ed the rest of his babies for the win.
Record:2-0-0
Round3: Vs. Omar
I managed to set up Meganiums fast enough to KO his phanphys before they could present a threat, then he sputtered with Magby and stalled and annoyed me a lot. After I KO'ed magby he played Pichu but I KO'ed that and the rest of his babies for the win.
Record: 3-0-0
Round4: Vs. Florienzio
This was the match I've been dreading. He played cargo and everyone assured me that he was very good. The game was really tough. I forgot to take notes, but I remember I had set up Meganiums very fast and he KO'ed two of them, but I set up and banded another and used Tyrogue to assist a KO or two. He had two fully powered Magcargos then he played a Neo1 Magmar, which I DG'ed up and attacked for 40 and sleep. I had both meganiums powered up by then. He DG'ed back and KO'ed my benched EX meganium with his Magcargo. The next turn I banded my remaining N1Meganium and attacked his Magcargo. His gold berry went off and he flipped heads for sleep and he attacked me, which I flipped heads for Band. I attacked him next turn and he flipped tails for sleep, and next turn I KO'ed him to draw the last prize to win!
Record4-0-0 Good game, Florienzio
Before Round 5 they had a raffle and gave out a lot of prizes. Matt won 4 things and gave away 3 of his prizes. He gave me a deck box. Thanks!
Anyways:
Round5: Vs. Stephen Silvestro
He got out an EX T-tar and 3 darks on it did 80 damage to my N1 Meganium, I retreated to send up Rogue and did 60 to him, Ttar had 10 HP left due to the 40 Meganium damage I did plus the 60 and 10 for a Rainbow NRG. I KO'ed his T-tar with a Chikorita and played Bayleef next turn, and evolved it into a meganium the following turn. T-tar and Meganium exchanged blows and eventually Meganium got KO'ed and so did 2 benched babies simultaneously.
Record: 4-1-0
Round 6: Vs. Vijay
He also played Magcargo however this game I was not so lucky. He got a fast set up and I simply did not. He KO'ed my Chikoritas then finished off my Babies for the rest of his prizes.
Record: 4-2-0
Round7: Vs. Chris Dressler
After the two losses, I was bumped into 7th place. If I lost this one I would not get into the top 8. So I had to win. He played an EX Plume and AQAriados combo deck. In the beginning I got my evolutions out fast because the cards were already in my hand, however I could not get any card drawing or energy cards. He got out a bunch of basics and evolved a Gloom and Plume. When he used a Pokémon Trader with a ready-to-evolve Gloom on the field, and got a Cleffa from his deck, I knew his Vilpeplume/s had to be locked up in his prizes, and things were looking up. The next turn I got a Copycat and used it. I got the energy and card drawing cards I needed from the new hand. He had out 2 Ariados, a Vileplume, a Gloom and a baby out when I got the Copycat. I energied my Meganiums and used Double Gust to knock out Vileplume and then I KO'ed Ariados and a baby or two, finally Double Gusting up a damaged AQ Gloom for the win!
Record: 5-2-0
Top8 Rounds: These were Single Elimination rounds.
Round 1: Vs. Matt: Semifinals
Before the game Matt was talking about how badly he would lose against me with his grass-weak Donphan and how I would mop the floor with him. We quickly got our donphan and a Wild Growth Meganium, respectively. He responds by playing Focus band on all his pokémon on the field. I DG his Donphan and attack it, he flips heads for Focus, then flips heads for sleep. He rapid spins back to the bench and promotes Elekid. I leave Meganium on the bench because I had no DG so I banded Meg and failed an Eeeeeeek but next turn he double Gusts up the damaged Meganium and KO's it after I flip tails for Focus. After that I am completely unable to set up anything past Chikorita because it keeps getting dg'ed. He Knocks out a Cleffa for the last prize and I lose. Surprise, Matt.
Final Record: 5-3-0
Well that was my whole SBZ Tourney experience and I admit it was very fun, coming out of nowhere(for it was my first sanctioned event), with a crazy rogue deck and 0wning my way to the top 8 and walked away with 6 boosters. I hope very much to be able to come to another event there. Looking back I'd take out a Trader and add a Tyrogue, if you want to try the deck out. Vijay also won the tournament, congratulations to him. Now as this report comes to a close I believe it is time to give out props and slops, so here they are:
Props:
1st of all to my Dad, who gave up his whole Saturday to drive me to SBZ, and for taking pictures of the event. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!=)
