Evaporator
John Chimento (Johnny Blaze)

T.J.'s Collectibles
Milford, Mass.
February 17, 2003

Team Blaze leaves Albany, NY around 7:00 a.m. to get to Milford Mass.  Its myself, my son Nick, Ben and Devon Mancini, Adam Smith, Dale Russell, and Tim Colosi.  We arrive at T.J.'s around 10:00 a.m. and he opens the door for all the Pokemon players.  There was also a Magic large scale tournament there later in the day.  Tournamnet registration runs smoothly and we are all shortly on our way around 11:30 start time.  There was a good turnout of around 44 participants.  The tournament was run by Brian (BJJ), and Marril2K, who both did a great job!!

On to the decklist:

Evaporator
Basically more and more trainers are being run now in Modified. More than ever now since Slowking is banned.  What does that mean?  Less and less energies are being played.  So what do I do?  Make a deck to drain those special energy cards that more and more decks are using.  For example Kingdra
decks run very little energies with Recycle,  Light Dragonite with Boost Energy, Jumpluff with Rainbow, you get the picture.  Also against Fire decks Wartortle just rocks.  Better band that Cargo cause on 2nd turn Wartortle's Giant Wave is doing 80 to it.  Attach recycle, rinse then repeat.  The Rogues
of course are for 1st turn k.o.'s and of course to beat down the Buzz's.

Pokemon- 18
4- Exp Squirtle
3- Exp. Wartortle
3- Jet Stream Blastoise
3- NG Cleffa
3- Tyrouge
1- Magby
1- Elekid (saved me so many times against Lilly Pad Mew and good tech against other Water)

Trainers- 24
4- Profesor Elm
4- Energy Removal 2(Even though it's a flip, combined with Jet Stream just drain those special energies and energy)
3- Pokemon Trader
3- Oak's Research
3- Double Gust
2- Focus Band
2- Gold Berry
1- Broken Ground Gym
1- Pokemon Tower(Remove those Recycle off of Kingdras)
1- Town Volunteers

Energy- 18
15 Water
 3 Recycle

Round 1 vs. Dane Olson
Dane was playing a Noc-Loc deck with Dark Blastoise. I had Dane if I could only flip heads on baby power.  It was Cleffa vs. Cleffa with me benching a Squirtle.  I attach a Water to Squirtle and pass.  He cant Eeeeeek and then I evolve to Wartortle and attach an energy and flip tails for Giant Wave. This happens for 2 more turns and finally he gets basics and builds up.  Its Removal Blastoise vs Dark Blastoise.  Basically between my Elekid and Removal Blastoise I easily take care of him taking all 6 prizes to none.

1-0 3pts.

Round 2 vs. Adam Smith
Adam is on Team Blaze and he borrowed my Entei/Cargo deck for Super BattleZone.  Adam got a 2nd turn Cargo going with 4 energies.  He could not flip through baby power and I built up Wartortle by Turn 3.  He flips tails on his Focus Band.  He has already built another Cargo and that Cargo takes out my Wartortle.  All I had left was babies and Cargo easily takes them.

1-1 3pts.

Round 3 vs. Tim Colose
Paired up against another member of Team Blaze.  Tim was playing his Aquapolis Tyranitar with the 3 attacks and he uses Hitmonchan for support. I built a 3rd turn Blastoise.  He went to trade for his lone Buzz but that was in his prizes.  My Blastoise took down his Larvitars and babies and I won by benching him.

2-1 6pts.

Round 4 vs. Jay S.
Jay was playing a Light Arcanine and Tyranitar deck.  I go 1st and bench a Squirtle nad make Cleffa active.  He has a lone Growlithe.  I attach water to Squirtle and pass.  He goes and attaches a Fire to Growlithe.  I trade for Wartortle and attach a 2nd Water and Giant Wave for the win.

3-1 9pts.

Round 5 vs. Barbara Geary
Barbara is another old ttime Pokemon player.  I know her from past events dating all the way back to the original Pokemon Mall Tours.  Today she was playing a Typhlosion Recharge with Magcargo and Entei.  She has pretty much torn up everyone she has played so far and told me that it was my deck that
she feared most.  I had a 2nd turn Wartortle built up and took out her Cargo but she had babies on the bench.  For like 6 turns straight I cant flip heads to take out her babies.  I now have a Blastoise with a Focus Band attached.

And she has a Typhlosion with 3 energy, a Entei with 2 energy and no energy on her Cargo.  I double gust the Phlosion and kill it.  She plays another Entei and Howls to get Cargo built up.  I flip tails for Blastoise.  We end up taking prizes back and forth.  She plays a Pokemon Cneter and clears off
damage from her Cargo that I was ready to kill.  She then Ballon Berries it back to the bench. Finally I run out of Blastoise's and time is called and she wins on prizes.  Also a big hindrance was her Weakness Guard she kept on playing on her Fire Pokes.

3-2 9pts.

Round 6 vs. Bill Gerry
Bill was playing a Exp. Alakazam.  Unfortunately all he had was a CLeffa vs.my Rogue.  He goes 1st and plays 3 Bills and 1 Bill's Teleporter and still no
basics.  He then Eeeeeks and still no basics.  I end up Rogueing him on 2nd turn.

4-2 12pts.

Round 7 vs. Ben Mancini
Im going up against a 3rd member of Team Blaze.  Basically this one will decide who willl make it into Top 8.  Ben started strong going 4-0 but loses his last 2.  He is playing Steelix with Buzz for backup with Umbreon also. He starts with a Buzz vs my Rogue.  He goes 1st and paralyzes Rogue with
Thundershock.  I bench a Squirtle and another Rogue.  I attach a Water to Squirtle and see if my plan works.  It does he goes for the bait!  He double Gusts the Sguirtle attaches a Rainbow to Buzz and Thunderpunches it for the prize.  Buzz now has 20 damage on it.  I promote Rogue and Smash Punch for
the win.

5-2 15pts.

Top 8 is announced and here is the list with winning decks:

1. Devon Mancini    18 pts      Victrebell/Murkrow
2. Jared Hawkins    18 pts      Kingdra
3. Barbara Geary    17pts       Big Fire
4. Bob Callahan 16 pts      Boost Dragon
5. ME           15 pts.     Blastoise
6. Jim Snow     14 pts.     Dark Gengar
7. Adam Smith   13 pts.     Cargo/Entei
8. Kevin Berghorn   13 pts.     Kingdra/Steelix and I have to mention #9
9. Mike Pianka aka. Dark Zapdos 13pts  Exp.Poliwrath

Mike missed making the Top 8 by .2 pts.  Bummer man.

My 1st match was against Bob Callahan.  Usually it is our 2 kids that are in the finals, Alayana vs. Nick but both bombed out today because of the mix play.  Anyhow this was the match up I was waiting for.  I wanted to remove his Boost Energies all day long.  He also played Steelix with Onix Rage.  I had a built up Blastoise by turn 4.  He had an Active Steelix with1 Metal and 2 Fighting and 100 damage on it.  He attaches a Memory Berry and obilterates my Blastoise.  All I have are babies left.  I do takeout the Steelix with Rogue but then his Boost Dragon takes the rest of my Babies and a Squirtle.

So Bob ends up winning the tournament beating Devon with his Victrebell and
then Bob goes on to defeat Jared's Kingdra's deck.  Congrats Bob.
