5 round Swiss-Style Tournament

12 October, 2002

About 10 Entries

This was my 3rd tournament (2nd Neo-On) and so far i had placed 3rd in a Type 1 tournament and 7th in another Neo-On tourney. Today there would be some tough competition because my friends Matt Dunford, Jerel and Danny were gonna be there. The rest of the competition was newbie who probably didnt know what this tournament was about. The Prize was 4 Neo Destiny boosters for 1st place, 3 for 2nd place, 2 for 3rd place and 1 for 4th place. Before the tournament I tweaked ny deck so that it was Slowking-proof (although NO ONE used it!!!):

DARK BLASTOISE DESTRUCTION:

4x E-Squirtle (3x 40 Hp, 1x 50 HP)

3x Dark Wartortle

3x Dark Blastoise

3x Cleffa

2x Pichu

1x Elekid

3x Tyrogue

4x Prof. Elm

4x Gold Berry

3x Double Gust

3x Rocket's Hideout

4x Bill

2x Time Capsule

3x Boss' Way

15x Water Energy

4x Dark Energy

Strategy: Get DB out by turn 3 w/ 3 water Energy, the trainers are there to draw, switch, etc. Pichu is for Slowking, Cleffa is for drawing.(since no Pokemon except Elekd have Pokemon Powers), Tyrogue is for electric, and Elekid for "energy droughts".

ROUND 1: V.S Hu (Dark Feraligatr/E-Feraligatr/Articuno Deck)

I've face Hu alot, he normally beats me but this time was different. He didnt have any Basics in hand 3 times so I got a good start. I had Cleffa active and Squirtle on the Bench while he had Totodile active and Articuno benched. He won the coin toss, and attached an energy to Articuno, but during my turn I Double Gust'ed it in and began my usual planning for Dark Blastoise (Rocket's Hideout, Gold Berry,etc.). By the time he had Articuno ready to attack, I had DB out with 3 Energies and the Articuno had 60 damage on it (Focus Bands), so I kept on putting Babies on the bench so that he couldnt Double Gust without having a Baby come out, and I got another DB started. Eventually he got Dark Croconaw up and nearly KO'ed my DB, but with some well placed Gold Berries and luck I pulled out of it with a win, and Hu puled out of it with disgrace and disgust because he lost.

RECORD: 1-0

ROUND 2: V.S. ??? (Random-Just-Put-Together-MMF-Deck)

Well this poor kid didnt know that the tournament was Neo-On so he had BARELY enough time to build one up. When the battle started he had Bulbasaur, Slugma, and Squirtle out....I could guess this kid was NOT good at making decks, oh well...back to the battle...Well the fight was easy, eventhough he hd DB too! and A Magcargo on the Bench. I got DB FULL POWERED 3rd turn and totally annihilated the kid....better luck next time!!

RECORD: 2-0

ROUND 3: V.S. Danny (Kabutops/Gligar)

Danny was using Matt's deck which was pretty good, and I felt confient going into this battle. I dont really remeber how this match started, but I do know that I got DB full powered with a Dark Energy turn 4, while Danny had those STUPID, ANNOYING, Kabuto that multiply like rats!!!  And he had 3 Kabutops!!! The Kabutops eventually killed my DB's (all 3 of them!!!) but not without it being a very close match. (strangely the dice rolls went alot my way this match...strange..)

So I lost to Danny but my next match was one ill never forget.

RECORD: 2-1

ROUND 4: V.S. Matt Dunford (Charizard Deck)

When I first found out I was fighting Matt, my chances for finishing 1st I thought were nullified...Matt had tought me all about being a Top-Notch Pokemon player and he had literally GIVEN me half my deck!! But the ties between "Sensei" and "Pupil" were now severed..I started off with a Squirtle and some babies on the bench. I got DB out turn 3 even with Matt nearly getting his ever-fatal Charizard, but I got ALL 3 of my Double Gusts and got rid of 2 Charmanders and a Charmelen!!!! Eventually his babies gave out to the massive power of my DB and I won, this being my greatest accomplishment of my Pokemon Card career....

RECORD: 3-1

ROUND 5: V.S. Patrick (Psychic-Random-Splash Deck)

Well, the odds of finishing 2nd were because Danny, who I was tied with, had faced Jerel who was undefeated and the dumb computer would give him more points, so i was hoping I'd win and Hu would beat Jerel....The kid I was facing's name was Patrick. He had the BIGGEST deck i've ever seen!!! (becuse all his cards were in half-inch THICK protectors!!!) But his strategy wasnt good, He started w/ Staryu and a mewtwo on the bench, while I had Squirtle and Cleffa, after that i never had to play another Basic again....I played Dark Wartortle to stall while I waited for Dark Blastoise, after that I destroyed him all of his pokemon going down like pinballs...

RECORD: 4-1

Unfortunantly Hu lost to Jerel and so I was 3rd place even though I tied with Danny. I got 2 Neo Destiny Boosters In which I got Dark Ursaring and Thought Wave Machine (bleh)....still Tied-For-2nd isnt bad, I just hope I can do better next time.

PROPS/SLOPS

PROPS:

1. For Jerel winning the Tournament

2. For coin flips going in my favor A LOT.

3. For the kids who didnt cry or get mad after I beat them (except Hu)

4. For Matt and Danny giving me the Pichu's and a Cleffa

5. For Matt being a good sport

SLOPS:

1. For not being able to USE the Pichus.....

2. For the LAME prizes...(they at least could've been Expedition..)

3. For that dude James saying everyone but Matt and Jerel sucks (*gets really mad*)

4. For that kid who thought you could evolve Horsea into Misty's Seadra (by NOW everyone should know you cant do that...)

5. For not getting 2nd Place...grrrr...

All in all it was a good tournament, thanx for reading this!!
