Subject: Heavy Octillery Killer deck Heavy Octillery, v. 1.0 By Matt Roen At Outpost 200 and Beyond Brooklyn Park, MN This is Heavy Octillery, a Modified deck built to compete with the strongest Modified archetypes without sucumbing to using archetype cards. It didn't work quite well enough, but only due to my infamiliarity with Turbo decks; however, everyone I talked to said that this deck scared them( including the tournament champion). So on to the deck! 4 Destiny Remoraid(gotta start somewhere) 4 Dark Octillery(see stratedgy below) 3 Genesis Wooper(combat R. Zapdos, amnesia KICKS) 3 Cleffa(if I have to Explain this, you're hopeless) 2 Murkrow(ALWAYS(always, always) put in decks with D. Energy) 1 Unown M(Steelix, Forretress, and Magcargo are the dominant decks where I play) 4 Prof. Elm(see Cleffa) 4 Focus Band(can't rely on Hideout) 4 Rocket's Hideout(can't rely on F.B.) 4 Secret Mission(HATE Wrath, Works well with Imp. Oak's Revenge) 4 Imp. Oak's Revenge(don't leave home without it 3 Balloon Berry(Octillery don't move too well) 3 NGR(superior in every way to Time Capsule) 2 Boss's Way(standard Dark evo deck card) 2 Double Gust(standard any deck card) 7 Water Energy(Give a big guess) 4 Dark Energy(see below stratedgy) 2 F.H. Energy(can you say,"Dark Gengar"?) The deck is designed to get a Dark Octillery out, with a Water and two Darkness, as soon as possible. This nets you a SIXTY DAMAGE ATTACK with no flipping, no self-damage, no "can't use on next turn" bull, no Nothing(:0). Tell me if I'm wrong, but that seems seriously broken to me. Four-round Swiss Round One- Ally and her Gatr This one was close. I got a good hand and proceeded to clean house. Until she got her Cleffa- Elekid thing going. Elekid bonked Octillery, and most of my Darkness, in about four turns. While Cleffa sat there smirking. Stupid Cleffa. After that, Gatr did his Thang and got Ally's revenge. But, I took four Prizes before Ally got a one. Didn't help, though. Round Two-Marty and his Unown-Party Psychic deck I don't know why Marty likes Unown so much, but he does. However,I didn't see a one during our match(at least, not Active). This is the match made by Murkrow. I got lethal bad luck through half the blasted deck. Marty took five(!) Prizes early on with his Destiny Slowking(?). A combination of several underpowered Basics made that thing go away, and Marty sent up a Sabrina's Kadabra. Those things are scary. But, my beat-up-ole Murkrow saved the day. See, Marty's sub-standard deck doesn't include any switcher cards at all. So, I Mean Looked Kadabroid and proceeded to Feint Attack Every thing in sight. Marty, once he realized the predicament he was in, gave me several Mean Looks of his own. Murkrow's Resistance meant Kadab couldn't kill him, and Marty's benched Basics went down easily. An exiting come-from-behind win!(well, sorta). Round Three-Someone Else and their Gatr This went bad quick. A swarm of stalling Babies(half of them Elekid. Grrrrr)and several good flips on the non-Riptide Gatr's Power meant an embarrasingly short and brutal killfest for the other guy. Darn, drat, shoot. Round Four-Blake's Bizzare Crobat-Jumpluff(?)Deck I don't remember much specific from this one. Early on, several Crobats popped up, making me rather depressed. However, the things COULD NOT GET HEADS FOR THE LIFE OF THEM. Blake only got more than one heads ONCE during the whole match(hee hee). Octillery bopped two of the bloodsuckers before attrition made it fall to a third. But not before I did 80 damage to the beast(DARN those Focus Bands) The next Octillery killed the bat, and then everything but the last turn goes blank. It had come down to this: Blake's last Golbat had two energy on it. I had a focus banded Cleffa, with 20 damage, Active. Blake had zero cards left in his deck and one prize left. If he could just get by the Baby power, Poison would guarantee that the thing would croak. He Flipped(drum rolls playing in my head)... TAILS!! He passed. So did I. All in all, a solid deck that could easily be great with just a little tweaking. So if you're looking for a fun non-archetype deck that could just make your foes run and hide, try out Heavy Octillery! _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
