Golden X (Water/Psychic)

Hey, you pojomaniacs out there. I went to the final league of the year at The Game Keeper, and I was hoping for more ppl, but whatever. Anyway, the name refers to the 2 pokemon used most in the deck Xatu, and Golduck. Have fun reading!

Strategy: Get out Dark Golduck, with a backup Mewtwo/Rocket’s Mewtwo and Xatu (ND or NG, better ND). With Healing Fields out, you can deal some big damage, while healing yourself. It’s weird, but in Exhibition matches with my brother, Xatu was the main character battling. Even though I have 3-3 of each line. Anyway, here’s the league report:

Match One vs. Albert w/ Lightning/Psychic NR Starmie Deck

Albert got a booster box a few days ago, so he has his deck packed with new NR cards. Big mistake. Many of em just suck, but he got enough of em to make a deck. Anyway, here’s what happened. I start with Psyduck, Golduck, 2 Psychic, 1 Recycle, Gold Berry, and Healing Fields. I’m like, WOW! Then, after he gets the flip, I just say uhoh. He has a Pikachu and a Raikou (Holo). He goes, attaches to Pikachu. I hope he doesn’t got Pluspower, play Gold Berry, play Healing Fields, and use Dizziness after attaching an energy. He attaches energy, Sparks. Gold Berry takes away the 40. I give Psyduck another energy, ER, then Dizziness. Pikachu gets another energy, evolves to Raichu (NR), and Thundershock. 40 to me, no para. I topdeck an ER. I evolve to Golduck, Recycle attachment. Healing Fields, tails. ER. Item Finder. ER. Super Psy. He knows that Raichu is down, but uses Healing Fields. He gets heads. Benches Celebi (Holo). He attached a Psychic to Celebi, and passes. I Healing Fields, get tails (ERRRR). I know that Psychic Damage can knock out Dark Golduck. I computer Search for an Oak, Oak, get Natu, Xatu, MP Mewtwo, Psychic, Recycle Energy, Natu, Dark Golduck. I bench MP Mewtwo and one Natu. Attach the Psychic to Mewtwo, and Super Psy. Down Raichu! He sends Celebi, uses Psychic Damage. Luckily, he only gets one heads. I use Healing Fields, and get heads (FINALLY). I use Super Psy to knock out Celebi. Then I Knock Out energy-less Raikou for the win!

Between Matches: I’m askin’ all these dudes if they got the STS cards I need, everyone “has Focus Band in their deck”. I was all mad at his, but I kept quiet. I looked around to find my second victim…er, opponent.

Match Two vs. Chris w/ Fire, Psychic

I never really saw Psychic, but I didn’t question if he gave me true info.

Anyway, I get Cleffa and Natu on bench. He’s got Charmander active with Growlithe on bench. He goes first and attached Fire to Charmander, Scratches Cleffa successfully. I Eeeeek away an awful hand to get: 2 MP Mewtwo, 3 Psychic, Cleffa, ER. He gets angry because of Baby Power after failing an Ember. I attach Psychic to MP Mewtwo, and pass. He Embers for the KO. I promote MP Mewtwo, attach energy, and absorb. He Scratches me (?). I attach a Pluspower for the Charmander KO, and then Oak and Search for two more to KO Growlithe.

Between Matches: I get stamps, talk with a few kids about STS, check out my brother’s match with Albert. Blah. Then, this dood challenges me, and I accept, leaving him with a word of advice, “Forfeit.”

Match Three vs. A.J. w/ Raindance, including Blastoise, Feraligatr, and Poliwrath

He starts with Lapras, I start with Rocket’s Mewtwo. I go, attach, Juxtapose for nothing. He attached, then does 10 to me. I attach, Hypnoblast with sleep. He awakens, and Water Guns. I attach, Hypnoblast, but not before Healing Fields is put into play. I remove the 20 damage on me, and he goes to sleep again with Hypnoblast. He wakes up, Healing Fields flip is heads for him too. Anyway, he uses Confuse Ray after attaching an energy. He fails for confusion, so I attach again and Psyburn for the KO.

Between Matches: I’m looking around, and I see this other match almost done, so I challenge this kid. Also, AJ likes Heracross and Celebi, so he trades 2 Rainbow, NP Promo Mewtwo, Slowking, and one more card I forget right now for my Celebi and Heracross. I’m like, WOW! Now I can use Slowking in my deck with Dark Golduck. Cuz I got two! Anyway, my next opponent comes up to me and says, “I want to be the next victim,” (no, not really)

Match Four vs. Bryan w/ Water/Steel/Dark/Fighting/Grass

This guy had so many types of energies, but it actually worked! Anyway, he gets Larvitar, and two Scythers on the bench (one of each), and I get Natu and stuff. Xatu comes out turn 3, and wrecks his pokemon until Tyranitar comes out. Luckily, it’s not loaded, and I’m able to keep it at bay with Ers and SERS. I’m think, I NEED DARK GOLDUCK! I already have Psyduck on bench, and a gift from God, and Oak, gives me a Dark Golduck, and energies.

I start to power up Dark Golduck while Ering his Tyranitar into oblivion.

Finally, Golduck gets ready, and sweeps up Tyranitar, Scyther, Pupitar, and Pineco for the win. Not too hard.

Between Matches: This dude wants Umbreon so badly, he says he’ll trade Darkness Energy, Focus Band, and another non-holo for it, but then he realizes he needs Darkness to use Umbreon, so he takes that out. Now, all I want from him is Rainbow, which he won’t trade, Dark, which he won’t trade, and Focus Band, which is not worth an Umbreon. Anyway, I ditch him, and get back to battling.

Match Five vs. AJ w/ “Deck Two”

This deck is so weird I won’t even explain. He has a Girafarig out, and I take care of it with Rocket’s Mewtwo. Then, I bench Natu, and KO his Destiny Bonding Base Gastly (???). He says that Base Gastly, in his opinion, is the best card ever. I’m like…O_O, but I don’t care. I got my Scizor Promo after defeating him! A good way to end the last of the year’s league!

Afterwards: My and my bro got a pack, and my bro opened his first. He got a Suicune. Now, my pack. I open it, and look at the cards. Old Rod…Smoochum…Paras…Shuckle…Quilfish…and the rare……………SHINING GYARADOS! ACK! WOW! YIKES! I GOT A SHING GYARADOS. I’m so happy. What a perfect way to end a perfect year! I quickly put it into a double sleeve and top loader!
