First I'd like to say, that I can't beleive they made me remove my trench coat and backpack. Ok now that I have that off my chest, this was my first tournament and I'm not from the area so I didn't know anyone. I didn't realy expect to do good at all, especialy with all those raindance and haymaker decks around. I did however do very, very well indeed : )
This is a deck I made just for this touney and I haven't used it since then, though it did realy well. I always liked the idea of psycic/fire, but never thought it would do good. So why use it at your first tourney? I just wanted to prove different can be good : ) Ok you probably want to see the deck, here it is Pyrokenesis:

    Round 1
vs. ????? with a Raindance deck
My fire was useless against this guy. I started with an abra, charmander, and a gastly(fossil). He got squitle, an articuno, and a rocket evee. I put down gastly, then he put down rocket evee. I won the toss and put a psy energy on gastly. He flipped and was back. he attached an energy and used tackle. I then got a fossil haunter and made short work of him with nightmare and transparency. He got another evee, though and evolved it into dark vaporeon. I lit up his evee and he evolved his squirtle into blastoise with poke breeder and fully powered it. He sent that out and tried to kill me, but I still had that transparency. Then I powered up my abra and got kadabra, I used super psy and killed him. I was down to 2 prizes and he was down to 1.
He had a polywrath and I had a fully powered kadabra, it was all I had left so I gust of winded and killed his dark vaporeon with a plus power.
Then he brought out squirtle and I made short work of it.

        wins 1 loses 0

    Round 2:
vs. ????? with a cleaner deck
This guy realy had a good deck, but he just didn't know what he was doing. He still had a good chance of beating me though(cleaners aren't easy) I started with charmander and abra, he got koffing, magmar(fossil), and growlithe. He won the coin toss and sent out koffing while I sent out abra. I didn't get any energy for a while and he pummeled me. I sent out charmander and drew a bill used it and got another charmander and a fire energy. I used my energy on charmander and embered. He retaliated with a magmar(fossil) and used smog and almost killed me "no poison". Luckily I drew a gust of wind and killed magmar. I ended up with 1 prize and he had 3. I had a fully powered kadabra and he had a fully powered arcanine with damage. It was my turn and I super psyed it to death, leaving him in the dust.

        wins 2 loses 0

    Round 3:
What a hoot, my opponent is no where to be found, I win. : )

        wins 3 loses 0

    Round 4:
  vs. ????? with a water/grass deck
I knew I could win this one, just let my psy counter the water and let my fire burn the green. I started with charmander, abra, and gastly(fossil). He got dark vaporeon, rocket evee, bellsrpout, and weepinbell. He won the coin toss, and sent out evee, I laid down charmander. He put down an energy and tackled me for 10 damage.  I put down an energy and attacked for 10. He got another energy and sand attacked me, but it failed. I had a fully powered kadabra on my bench. I got charmander powered and embered for 30. He then evolved into dark vaporeon and whirlpooled, making me discard an energy. I embered when charmander was about to be killed, so he used bite and killed him. I brought out kadabra and super psyed and killed it. It got down to 2 prizes for me and 1 for him. Luckily I had a fully powered gengar all this time, but no other basics. He had a cloister and a weepinbell(with 20 damage). I used dark mind on weepinbell and gave 10 to cloister. he razorleafed me for 30. I gust of winded cloister and put down my defender and plus power, and killed cloister. He sent out his weepinbell and razorleafed me, but my defender took 20 of it. Then I dark minded his weepinbell and got my last prize! I smoked this guy.

        wins 4 loses 0

    Round 5
vs. ????? with a ghost deck
I knew I was gonna lose this match before it even started, with that being said you already should know the outcome. I started with a charmander and 2 gastlys. He started with mr. mime, gastly(fossil), wigglypuff. He won the toss and went first. He put out a gastly and a comp search, luckily I had rockets sneak attack. I put out an energy and a gastly and got rid of his comp. He licked and parylized my gastly. We went back and forth evenly until he got gengar. He mowed down my gastlys and my abra with gengar. He then made short work of my dark charmeleon and my kadabra, then it was all over and I still needed 5 prizes! That knocked me out of the tourney and this joker went on to win it after magling me. : (

        wins 4 loses 1

I know others have had this deck concept before, but I have never heard of one doing so well. Despite this decks weaknesses it did realy, realy good and exceded my expectations. I realy strugled against water decks for obvious reasons, but I wanted to see how it would hold against haymaker decks. (sigh) I never got the chance to dee that though.
