I recently moved to Friendswood, and I wanted to go to a tourney.  I was
fooling around on Pojo,
and I found they held tournaments at the Baybrook Mall.  I didn't know what
was being played, so I couldn't use a metagamed deck.  Then Hitmonbuzz came
to my mind.  A chance to use one of my good, all around decks sounded cool,
so I gave it a try.

"Hitmonbuzz"
Pokémon: 12
4 Hitmonchan
4 Electabuzz
4 Scyther

Trainers: 29
4 Bill
4 Computer Search
4 Plus Power
3 Item Finder
3 Super Energy Removal
3 Energy Removal
2 Professor Oak
2 Scoop Up
2 Energy Retrieval
2 Gust of Wind

Energy: 19
8 Fighting Energy
8 Grass Energy <ed. note: I assume you mean electric...>
3 Double Colorless

Strategy:
Use Hitmonchan and Electabuzz to be your big hitters, and have Scyther there
for backup.  Electabuzz is awesome against Rain Dance, and Hitmonchan and
Scyther can combat other Haymakers.  The cards drawing power from trainers is
extremely helpful when you need that specific card.  The deck may seem low on
energy, but the Energy Retrievals help.

Game 1: Talon's Hitmonbuzz V.S. Jacob's "Leech Life"
For this game I was facing this little kid, Jacob.  His Dad was watching the
round, helping him since the kid was about 5.  Actually, his Dad was pretty
cool, complimenting me on my deck and thanking me for helping Jacob.  The kid
has a Grass deck with the theme of "Leech Life." At least that was what he
said.  It was mostly a status effect deck.  Anyway, onto the matches.
Round 1:
He started with a Venonat, me with Hitmonchan and a Scyther on the bench.  I
attached a fighting and Jabbed, he benched a Pinsir and played Sleep!, with
tails.  He then did Stun Spore.  He kept having my coin fall off the table,
so I told him to catch it.  He did, and it was heads (D'oh!).  I drew a card
and it was Electabuzz.  I attached a Double Colorless to Scyther and used
Energy Removal on his Venonat.  He then attached a Grass to Pinsir, and
evolved into Venomoth.  He did Computer Search for Nightly Garbage Run.  He
thought you could get the cards into your hand.  I told him that they go in
the deck, and he got a little mad.  On my turn I attached a Electric to
Scyther, and it was his turn.  He attached a grass to Venomoth, my turn.  I
attached a fighting to Hitmonchan, retreated him, and played Scyther.  I
slashed for 30.  He attached a grass to Venomoth and used Venom Powder.  He
got heads.  I took 10 from his attack, and 10 from poison.  On my turn, I
benched another Scyther.  Thinking that if I got heads, I could retreat for
nothing and send out my other Scyther.  I'd retreat him and send out the
fully powered one.  I flipped, it was tails.  I then got a little risky and
decided to attack with a Plus Power.  I flipped, it was heads!  Venomoth was
knocked out!  He sent out a Pinsir, and did nothing.  I retreated Scyther
with heads, and sent out Hitmonchan.  I attached a fighting and Jabbed.  He
attached a grass and used Irongrip for 20, not paralyzing, thankfully.  I
attached another fighting and Jabbed.  He benched a Venonat and used
Irongrip, paralyzing me.  I Scooped Up Hitmonchan, and sent out Scyther.  I
Slashed for the kill.  He sent out Venonat and used Stun Spore, without
paralyzing.  I had 10 HP left on Scyther, so I Computer Searched for a Plus
Power, attached it, and Slashed for the round.
Round 2:
I started with a lone Electabuzz, him a Venonat and a Scyther.  I drew a
Hitmonchan and benched him.  I attached an electric to Electabuzz,
Thundershocked, and got heads.  He attached a Double Colorless to Scyther,
and it was my turn.  I used Energy Removal on the Colorless, attached a
fighting to Electabuzz, and Thunderpunched with heads for the kill.  He sent
out Scyther and Gusted out my Hitmonchan.  He attached a grass and Swords
Danced.  I was a little scared that he'd have a surprise Double Colorless, so
I ER'd the grass.  I Scooped Up the Hitmonchan, and sent out Electabuzz. I
benched the Hitmonchan, and attached a fighting to him.  I Thunderpunched
with tails.  He attached another grass to Scyther, and benched a Caterpie and
a Venonat.  I attached a fighting to Hitmonchan, and Thunderpunched, with
heads, for the kill.  He sent out Caterpie and String Shot with tails.  I
attached a fighting to Hitmonchan, and retreated Electabuzz. I Special
Punched Caterpie, killing him.  He sent out Venonat and Stun Spored, with
heads.  I did nothing, and he Stun Spored again, with tails.   I Special
Punched for the game.
Record: 1-0

Game 2: Talon's Hitmonbuzz V.S. Colin's Haymaker
This kid was about 10 and he was playing a Haymaker with Dittos, Hitmonlees,
Scythers, and Electabuzzes.  He was asking me about how to improve his deck.
It actually wasn't bad.
Round 1:
He started with a Ditto and a Hitmonlee, me a Hitmonchan and a Electabuzz.
I went first, and attached a fighting.  I jabbed for twenty.  He went and
attached a Colorless to Ditto and Jabbed.  I ER'd the Colorless and attached
another fighting.  I benched a Scyther, and Jabbed for 20.  He played a
Switch and sent out Hitmonlee.  I retreated Hitmonchan, and brought up
Scyther.  I Computer Searched for a Double Colorless, and attached it.  He
attached a fighting to Hitmonlee, and it was my turn.  I attached an Electric
to Scyther and Slashed.  He benched a Scyther and attached a fighting to
Ditto.  I Slashed, killing him.  He sent out Scyther and attached an
Electric.  I Gusted out Ditto and Slashed for the kill.  He sent out Scyther
and attached a Colorless. He Slashed.  I then Slashed him back.  He Oaked,
and benched a Ditto.  He attached a Fighting to Ditto.  I Computer Searched
for a Plus Power, attached it, and Slashed for the knockout.  He brought up
Ditto and attached a fighting.  He said it was my turn.  I said "Why didn't
you Swords Dance?".  He wanted to do it, but he already said it was my turn.
I attached an Electric to Electabuzz, and used SER.  I Slashed for 30.  He
attached a Colorless and it was my turn.  I needed a Plus Power badly, so I
Computer Searched, discarding the last two cards in my hand.  I Slashed for
the round.
Round 2:
He started with Hitmonlee and Electabuzz, me Scyther and Hitmonchan.  I
always send Scyther out first against any opponent (except fire) because I
can just retreat for free if I need to.  This time looks like I don't have to
retreat.  I used Bill, and I got a Double Colorless and a Electric.  I
attached the Colorless to Scyther and it was his turn.  He attached a
fighting to Hitmonlee.  I attached a Electric to Scyther and Slashed.  He
attached an Electric to Electabuzz.  I attached a Fighting to Hitmonchan and
Slashed for my first prize.  He sent out Electabuzz, and Thundershocked, with
heads.  I was feeling just a tad lucky when I did this.  I Scooped Up
Scyther, sent out Hitmonchan, and Computer Searched.  I found a Plus Power,
attached it, and Oaked.  I got the two other Plus Powers!  I Jabbed for the
game!!
Record: 2-0

Game 3: Talon's Hitmonbuzz V.S. Chris's "Rain Dance with a Wiggly Wave"
In this round, I was facing a kid that was one of the really good ones there.
He was about evenly matched with me on experience and playing, but he had
Wigglytuff in a deck with evolutions!  He had a hard time using Do the Wave.
Anyway, his little brother was there and was watching us the whole game.
This game was extremely lucky.  He only once got out Blastoise!
Round 1:
I started with a Electabuzz and a Scyther, him a Articuno and a Squirtle.  I
had a Plus Power, a Gust, and a Computer Search, so I attached a Electric and
Computer Searched for another Plus Power.  I Gusted out his Squirtle, and
Thundershocked with two Plus Powers for a first turn kill.  He sent out
Articuno, and benched a Jigglypuff.  So that's what his surprise was.  He
told me it had a twist.  He Oaked, and played 2 Bills.  He Oaked again.  I
guess he was looking for a Breeder and a Blastoise.
He attached a water to Articuno and it was my turn.  I attached a fighting
and Thunderpunched, with tails.  He went and attached a Colorless to
Jigglypuff.  I Thunderpunched with heads, killing him.  He sent out
Jigglypuff, and benched a Squirtle and a Articuno.  He evolved Jigglypuff
into Wigglytuff and used Lullaby.  I flipped heads and I was awake.  I
Thunderpunched with tails.  He uses Breeder and out comes Blastoise.  He does
the wave for 30 after attaching a water.  I Thunderpunch with Heads.  He
dances two water on Articuno, and does the wave, killing Electabuzz.  I send
out Scyther, and bench an Electabuzz.  I attach an Electric to Electabuzz and
retreat Scyther.  I Thundershock, killing Wigglytuff.  He sends out Articuno
and dances two energy.  He Blizzards with tails.  I attach a fighting, Super
Energy Removal Articuno, and Thundershock with heads.  He benches a Squirtle
and a Jigglypuff.  My turn.  I Computer Search for another Electabuzz, and
bench it.  I attach an energy and Thunderpunch, with heads.  He attaches an
energy to Jigglypuff.  I Thunderpunch with tails to kill Articuno and put me
with 60 damage.  He sends out Jigglypuff and attaches an energy.  He pounds,
killing Electabuzz.  I send out a fresh Electabuzz and attach a Electric.  I
Thundershock with heads.  His turn.  He attaches a water to Squirtle.  I
attach a fighting and Thunderpunch, heads.  He pounds.  I Thundershock for my
fifth prize.  He sends out Blastoise and dances two energy.  I gust out
Squirtle and Thunderpunch for my last prize.
Round 2:
I started with an Electabuzz, him an Articuno.  I go first, and Thundershock,
with heads.  He Oaks, and Bills.  He still didn't get anymore basics.  I
attached a fighting and Thunderpunched, tails.  He still doesn't have any
basics! My lucky day.  He attaches a water, and it's my turn.  I Thunderpunch
for the game.  I tell him good luck and I hope to see him in the finals.
Turns out, we both play each other!
Record: 3-0

Game 4: Talon's Hitmonbuzz V.S. Mike's Clefable Deck
This guy was around 30 years old! Definitely the toughest one there.  He had
a deck with Clefables, Promo Mewtwos, and Hitmonchans. Promo Mewtwos. . .
ugh.  Note: Sorry, this round may be a little off.  I was too nervous to keep
track.
Round 1:
I started with a Hitmonchan and no energy.  He had just a Clefairy out.  If I
had a stupid fighting I would have won!!!  Anyway, I went first and couldn't
do anything.  He Billed and played a Promo Mewtwo on the bench.  He used Sing
and I got four tails in a row while he evolved into Clefable and powered up
his Mewtwo.  He used Metronome, and Special Punched.  I finally killed his
Clefabe, leaving me with only 20 HP left.  He sent out Mewtwo.  Next round!
Round 2:
Now this is more like it.  I got Hitmonchan, he got Clefairy.  I went first.
I attached a fighting and won the round.
Round 3:
I started with a Scyther and a Hitmonchan, he started with a Hitmonchan.  I
had Scyther beat up his Hitmonchan, and he put out Mewtwo.  I Gusted out
Clefable, and got 40 on him.  He paid the retreat cost and sent out Mewtwo to
take me out.  I sent out Scyther, and it was a two hit knockout.
Record: 3-1

Game 5: Talon's Hitmonbuzz V.S. Colin's Haymaker
Hey! I face him again! Cool!
Round 1:
I started with a Scyther, him a Hitmonlee.  I attached a Double Colorless and
it was his turn.  He attached a fighting, my turn.  I attached an electric
and Slashed.  He Computer Searched for an Energy Removal and used it on
Scyther.  I attached a fighting and benched a Hitmonchan.  His turn.  He
attached a fighting and Stretch Kicked my Hitmonchan.  I attached an electric
and Slashed for the round.
Round 2:
I had a lone Electabuzz, he had a Hitmonchan and a Ditto.  I Thundershocked
with tails, he Jabbed.  I Thundershocked with tails again, he won the round
with Jab.
Round 3:
I started with two Scythers, him a Hitmonlee.  I went first, Billed, and
benched a Scyther.  I attached a Colorless, his turn.  He attached a fighting
and Energy Removaled.  I attached an electric and used Energy Removal.  His
turn, he attached a fighting.  I attached a Colorless and Slashed.  He used
Super Energy Removal.  I attached a fighting, his turn.  He attached an
electric.  I attached a fighting.  He attached a fighting and Stretch Kicked
my Scyther.  I attached a fighting and Slashed for the win.

FINALS
I was told I'd be playing for fourth.  Not bad, considering this was my first
time at this tourney and there were about forty people there.  The judge
matched me up with my opponent, and it was Chris!
Round 1:
I started with Electabuzz, Hitmonchan, and Scyther (the Lucky Three!), and he
had a Articuno and a Squirtle.  I went first and Thundershocked Articuno with
heads.  He attached a water to Articuno and benched a Jigglypuff.  I attached
a fighting and Thunderpunched with tails.  He benched another Articuno and
attached a water to the benched one.  I Thunderpunched with heads for my
first prize.  He sent out the second Articuno and attached a water.  He
gusted out my Hitmonchan, and it was my turn.  I attached a fighting to
Scyther and it was my turn.  He attached a third water and Freeze Dried with
heads.  I attached a Colorless to Scyther.  He attached another water and
used Blizzard, with tails.  He drew his prize, and I sent out Electabuzz. I
used Super Energy Removal, discarding the fighting from Scyther.  I then
Thunderpunched with heads.  He attached a water and Freeze Dried with tails.
I Thunderpunched with tails to draw my second prize.  He sent out a
Jigglypuff and used Lullaby.  I flipped heads and used Gust. I chose
Squirtle, and Thunderpunched for my last prize.

I ended up with 4th and won $8.00.  Chris got 5th and got $4.00.  Hitmonbuzz
did pretty well, considering the odds.  I now know that Promo Mewtwo is
popular.  I need some advice on what to add to my deck to counter Mewtwo.

Now for Props and Slops!
Props:
Props to Games Unique for having a good tourney.
Props to Chris on getting 5th.
Props to the cards I got in my boosters: Dark Gyarados and Dark Machamp.
Props to Promo Mewtwo (I need to use him).
Props to Pojo.
Props to Nikachu.

Slops:
Slops to Promo Mewtwo for being so good.

Thanks as always,
Talon
