Tournament Report
Battlzone -- Lenexa, KS
1/16/2000 -- 17 players -- $5 entry fee

This was the usual Sunday 1pm tournament at Battlezone... a regular high
placing kid decided not to play, which was good, I suppose. It appeared I
would have a 1st round bye, but 2 more players entered, making me happy. I
was sick of Haymaker and I didn't have enough Alakazams/Blastoise, thus the
Wiggly Electric Wave was made.

Deck : Wiggly Electric Wave

4x Jigglypuff
3x Wigglytuff [Need another]
4x Ditto
4x Scyther
4x Electabuzz

4x Professor Oak
1x Bill [This card does not belong. Will be taken out for Gust of Wind]
3x Computer Search
4x Pluspower
3x Gust of Wind
2x Energy Retrieval [These aren't necessary.... will be switched for
Wigglytuff and Item Finder]

20x Electric Energy [Seemingly too many, but everybody's seemingly favorite
cards are ER/SER]
4x Double Colorless Energy

This deck is designed to be able to challenge any other deck type. Scyther
counters the large Fighting weakness, Electabuzz counters water, Ditto is
general power and Wigglytuff cleans up against decks w/out ER/SER(or, even
with it depending on luck and speed).

This was a 4-game Swiss then Single-Elimination Round of 8 tournament. I
carry around Burger King Raichu and Japanese 2" toy Wigglytuff.

Game 1 : My Wiggly Wave vs. Kid's Rainbow

This kid made his deck in the 5-10 minutes after the pairings were announced.
His dad was not thrilled. He slowly took everything almost out of his binder,
eventually making a 30 Pokemon, 50(+/-) Energy deck. I didn't really care. I
put Electabuzz and simply Thunderpunched 4-6 basics with little/no energy.
The kid had a Venusaur he valued dearly and illegally put alone in a sleeve,
but he couldn't find Bulbasaur/Ivysaur anyway. (3)

Game 2 : My Wiggly Wave vs. Kid's Sister's Rainbow

The 1st game kid got a bye. And now I played his sister, who received a 1st
round bye. Well, she took 10-15 min. after pairings for a deck. It had
Charizard/Blastoise. Unfortunatly for her, she only had Mewtwo to start. I
quickly set up Wigglytuff and pulled off a 60-point attack with a couple
Oaks. (6)

Game 3 : My Wiggly Wave vs. Paul's Haymaker w/Muk

This wasn't great. Due to Muk, Ditto was useless. I was forced to Oak and
lose my Wigglytuffs off too quickly. I got SER'd about 5 times with Item
Finders. This disallowed Wigglytuff to power up for 10 turns in a desperate
maneuver to set up a massive attack. I decked myself with both of us at 2
prizes, ending an annoying yet strategic game. (6)

Game 4 : My Wiggly Wave vs. Cocky Kid's Water/Grass

He was somehow 2-1. And had an attitude. Too many kids like that these
days.... Anyway, I got 2nd turn full power Wigglytuff. In succesive turns I
knocked out Shellder, Krabby, Krabby, Shellder, Nidorina, Krabby. He liked
that Call for Family attack... rather simple game. I think his deck was just
a combination of Lockdown's Water and Power Reserve's Grass. (9)

At 3-1, I enter the top 8.

Quarterfinals : My Wiggly Wave vs. Annoying and Cocky Kid's Haymaker w/Muk

I get somewhat lucky and stick Scyther with Sleep/Paralysis enough that
Switches run out. I know not to try Ditto. Chansey hurts one of two
Wigglytuffs. Electabuzz does almost all the work due to his ER/SER stopping
Wigglytuff powerinf up. Eventually, I KO 6 Pokemon finishing with a late-game
Oak for a Pluspower.

Semifinals : My Wiggly Wave vs. Another Wiggly Wave

He oddly uses Kanghaskan and Chansey. I get Dittos to counter his
Electabuzz/Wiggly, and my own comes to clean out 3 Pokemon. My Ditto helps by
knocking out his Wigglytuff with a wave :), and Electabuzz enters to finish
off a Wigglytuff, running him out of Pokemon. His inability to find an early
Wigglytuff hurt.

Finals : My Wiggly Wave vs. Haymaker from Game 3

Odd draw... Electabuzz, 2 Energy, Retrieval, Oak, 2 CPU Search. I set up
everything, don't use Ditto against Muk(comes out), and simply Thunderpunch.
Scyther is too slow to stop it, and he doesn't have enough SER this time. One
Wigglytuff gets full powered to get slammed by Chansey. I knock out 4
successive Pokemon to win as SER runs out.

Well, this earned me $60 store credit for today. 3 Basic Packs and 7 Packs of
Star Wars CCG : Reflections, with $5 saved for next week... out of the 3
Basic, Raichu, Pidgeotto, Item Finder. Pretty good. Next week'll be same deck
I suppose with the extra Gust, Item Finder and Wigglytuff.

Props/Slops etc. :

Props :
-To a 14-year old girl going 3-1 and making it to the top 8[usually females
don't play Pokemon]
-To store for free 5 by 7 SW promo.

Slops :
-Game 1 Kid for not having deck ready.
-Game 2 Kid for not having deck ready.
-Dad of both kids getting really mad at them.
-Quarterfinals's kid calling me a loser multiple times.
-Other dad for leaving kid in car leading to police coming into Battlezone.
-All kids for twisting Raichu's tail and playing with it(not that I really
mind, it's just rather impolite to do so w/out asking)

That's about it. Winning was suprisingly exciting. A repeat would be nice as
well :)

Until next week...
