Energy Destroyer:

By Spawn of Chaos

I’m from Holland and I used this deck in a tournament at my local games store, Spelkwartier, Zwolle, 28-12-1999.

The tournament had 16 participents who each played 5 matches. 3 pts for a victory, 1 pt for a draw, and 0 pts for losing.

Each match was best of three with a 35 minute time limit.

Deck:

Trainers:

4 Super Energy Removal

4 Energy Removal

2 Professor Oak

Pokemon:

4 Poliwag

4 Poliwhirl

3 Poliwrath

4 Dratini

3 Dragonair

4 Starmie

Energy:

24 Water energy

4 double colorless

1st Match vs Funny Guy (looked a bit weird)

My opponent had a psychic deck, which was fortunate because my Dratini had resistance. It was best of three, and I won quite easily because I destroyed all his energy before he could evolve anything. 2-0 victory for me.

2nd Match vs his girlfriend

I was now up against a Fighting deck, one of the few decks I have a problem against, because of the low energy costs of fighting attacks. These attacks also do a lot of damage for their low energy cost. I lost the first match because I didn’t get any evolution cards. I won the second with my Dragonairs. The third match should have been mine. I needed to do at least 30 damage with my Poliwhirl. I of cause tossed two tails and got thrashed by a Machoke.

1-2 loss for me.

3rd Match vs Dave, friend of the shop owners

This guy had a red/blue combo deck with a Blastoise and a Charizard. He had computer searches and Pokemon traider to look for them and then raindance me to death. I luckely won the first mach because his Blastoise was in his prizes. I had allready destroyed all his energy, so 1-0 to me. I got beat in the second by his Blastoise and Gyrados. He put too much energy down and I couldn’t destroy it all. 1-1. The third match started well for me. I had a Poliwrath and 4 or 5 (super) energy removals in my hand. He had a Blastoise but hardly any energy in his hand. I was poised to win, but then time ran out. We had to finish the three matches in 35 minutes, but he had taken so long to find a card with his computer searches the time ran out.

1-1  draw.

4th Match vs some older dude, also friend of owner.

I got totally thrashed in this one because of my total disability to toss heads with my Dragonair/Poliwhirl. I tossed 6 times against his electric/grass deck(which included Beedrils and Electabuzz) and one was heads. My weakness of my Poli’s didn’t help either. A good 0-2 beating.

5th and last Match vs Julian (a friend of a friend).

I was fighting against a grass/water deck. But Julian was eventually last in this tournament because of his slow deck. I could take my time and build up a Poliwrath and destroy all his energy before he had time to evolve anything.

An easy 2-0 victory.

I got 7 points in total and ended up in 6th place. Not bad I thought. I learnt a few lessons. My deck was too slow, so I now have put 2 more Prof. Oak’s in to speed it up a little. I’ve also included 2 Computer searches to look for my Poliwraths, who usually turn up too late. For comments or advice for me: mailto:spawnofchaos@hotmail.com
