This tournament was held at "Tomorrow Is Yesterday Inc." in Rockford, IL on Saturday July 31, 1999. There were about 28 people, adults, children, and teens. I sorta played a Haymaker, but there are MANY differences, but the idea is still the same. Personally, i don't think you would even call it a haymaker, but if you think it is, i wanted to give Brian Brokaw his props. This deck also plays an energy denial theme. Here are the cards : ---BASIC POKEMON--- 12 3 Scyther 3 Hitmonchan 3 Electabuzz 3 Dratini ---EVOLUTION CARDS--- 2 2 Dragonari ---ENERGY CARDS--- 27 4 Double Colorless 9 Electric 10 Fighting 4 Grass ---TRAINER CARDS--- 19 4 Bills 2 Prof. Oaks 4 Energy Removal 2 Super Energy Removal 3 Gust of Wind 2 Energy Retrieval 2 Computer Search ROUND NUMBER 1 - Best of 3 Game 1: Me vs. Some kid i think he was 12 or 11. I got out my Electabuzz and soon i had a powered up Scyther and Dragonair. He only got to do 10 Damage to my electabuzz do to my energy removals. But my electabuzz died after a while because i almost never got heads whenever i used Thunderpunch. I sent in my dragonair to give more energy problems, and sure enough i beat him. He only drew 1 Prize card. Game 2: It was basically the same thing since i won. But i do believe it was scyther and electabuzz this time who won it for me. ROUND NUMBER 2 - Just 1 Game Game 1: Me vs. A different Kid. he looked about 12 or 13. He was playing a water dance. It was okay, but not very good to some other water dance decks i've seen. He sent in squitle against my electabuzz. Squitle dies, he sends in poliwag. I retreat, then i send in my powered up scyther. Poliwag dies. He sends in starmie. I free retreat, send back electabuzz. Starmie dies. He sends in a powered up vaporeon. Gee, so many energy removals in my hand...whatever shall i do? Vaporeon dies. It went on pretty much like this with me winning. ROUND NUMBER 3 - Just 1 Game. Game 1: He was probably older by a year or two, i'm 13. He was playing chansey first against my electabuzz. I kept gettin heads so chansey was packed full of damage counters, but then he retreated. He sent in diglett and did mud slap for 60 !! Uh oh. I retreated and sent in my scyther who wasn't powered up all the way... where are my double colorless i wondered??? So i couldn't attack. He free retreated and sent in magmar. He put another fire energy which made 2 and did 60 to me. I had another energy so i put it down. I had another scyther, i retreated my old scyther for the new one who happened to have dce on him. i put another energy down on him. Used a gust of wind for his diglett and knocked it out. He sent in magmar and did fire punch. I retreated. Sent in a hitmonchan i had on the bench and did jab. He did fire punch, i did special punch. He dies. 4 prizes to 4 . I NEED MY ENERGY REMOVALS i thought. He only had chansey on the bench at the time, but later he got some benched pokemon, with no energy. I knocked the chansey out. Anyway, i won. It would have been A WHOLE LOT EASIER if i drew more energy removals. ROUND NUMBER 4 - Once again just 1 game. This kid was undefeated....hmmm. He was about my age. Anyway, he got charizard out pretty quickly, but he was on the bench. I only had hitmonchan in the beginning against his Jynx. I'm weak again'st jynx and i don't have any benched pokemon. if hitmo dies, i lose ! Thankfully it seemed he couldn't keep energy on him due to my energy removals. Finally, he sacrificed his jynx while building up charizard, but he only managed to get 2 energy on the charizard. i used energy removal, used special punch. 3 of those, charizard was gone. By now, i had electabuzz and scyther on my bench. Things were looking up. He sent in another jynx w/o energy. 2 special punches and jynx was KO'ed. Where was all his psychic energy??? Either way i won pretty easily. i think he still had all his prizes or atleast 5 of them. ROUND 5 - Best of 3 (this was the finals) Game 1- He was a teenager, probably around 17. He was testing something out. The 2 mewtwo deck. He wanted to see if it would work. We both new i had the advantage since i had so many ER and SER. He mulliganed many times until he finally got a mewtwo. I only drew a couple of times, because the whole point of his deck is to make me deck myself. But i knew he was playing this kinda deck so i didn't take my 2 cards each time he mulliganned like some other people. He was undefeated like me. I had an energy removal, scyther, electabuzz, energy, and a computer search. He went first put an energy down and my turn. I put an energy down and drew a card of course like he did. I used thundershock. He goes, put an energy down and uses barrier. I can't attack, so i draw a card. I use energy removal. he goes put an energy down and he can't use barrier since he doesn't have enough energy. i get to attack with thunder punch. he's almost dead. Anway. this just repeated itself each time. I had to use computer search though to get my energy removals when i needed them. EIther way, i won. GAME 2 - I won again. It was basically just a repeat of game 1. ** i won a free preconstructed theme deck of my choice. Hey, it was a free tournament so you can't expect the greatest prizes.** - ADRIAN - E-Mail me at ELECREALM1@AOL.COM
